Trouble terminating cat6 cable to cat6 faceplates

"Solid copper conductor"
Note that it is UTP UNSHIELDED Twisted pair.
What is best, shielded or not? I thought perhaps shielded as i was guessing it would be shielded against electrical interference?
Final note: I was trying to stay away from unnecessary 100mtr reels since i actually only need about 15-20 metres.0 -

If you walk into the shop (quit a few branches), they even sell by the meter.
By mail order, I normal get a longish reel, since I'm paying postage.
FTP or UTP, I expect there is a reason for the shielding, which I don't know, but UTP is usually good enough.0 -
Yeah i've since been told i really should've gone for uhhhhh the UTP is it? Basically i shouldn't have gone for the shielded option.
I'm going to buy new faceplates but i refer you back to post #10. Quite a different in price between faceplates from different sellers. Is the dearer one likely to be worth it or not is what i wonder.0 -
I'm not really supposed to advertise.

These are only CAT5E, but PRETTY.

This one seems to have a CAT6 insert.

I'm fairly sure I have seen CAT6 versions elsewhere.
Suddenly, price is NO OBJECT, huh?0 -
Thanks, and no offence, but that doesn't really answer my question.
The 2 links i gave - they're pretty identical. Single cat6 faceplate yet there's quite a difference between the 2.
Surely a cat6 faceplate is a cat6 faceplate. Surely one can't be better than the other? It just does its job.0 -
It's just a connector.
If you don't care about your BT socket, don't care about the RJ45. If it makes good contact, that's all you need.0 -
-
Do you worry about buying a phone extension socket?
RJ45 is just a bigger version.0 -
The one at Scan that you posted doesn't look like it has an actual module with it, go ahead and buy the one from cablemonkey (or 2 if you need on both ends).
Could be a lot of problems here from your description. First, don't trust that those £3 (on ebay, same as yours) cable testers are gonna tell the truth with a Cat6.
Start at the start, where does the cable run from and to? Did you run it and know there are no horrible kinks? You know Cat 6 pairs like to stay together until they need to be terminated, you need to keep those pairs twisted for as long as possible.
Cut the cable back and start again, any little nick in any of the wires can make it fail. Have you stripped the cable nicely? NO NICKS!!
As others have said you need to avoid the copper coated aluminium !!!!!. Make sure you have a bit of end on your cable and get a Panduit module, punch it down and test the connection again. Punch down tools do vary in quality but to be honest, you can normally punch any wire down with any tool, some are more annoying and take longer than others but they should all do the job.0 -
Just re-read your #9 post, as long as you're terminating correctly you are in a situation which I have seen a couple of times by good cablers, which means, you have to run a new cable again.0
