Currys saved Christmas

ON Xmas eve our fridge freezer failed and we set off to get a quick replacement, no time for money saving and shopping around.
We tried J Lewis but they were less than helpful with delivery in several days. Next stop Currys, I was not optimistic and expecting similar result but all the staff were very helpful and 10 minutes later we had our new Fridge in our suv and all our food was saved. Well done Currys.

I'm not sure what you expected JL to do, if they didn't have stock in store (they don't usually, unless you are near one of their depots in which case you can collect). Hardly "less than helpful", just can't magic things out of thin air.

I'm glad Currys could help, but I do hope you have no need for their (rather dire) after sales support! ;)

My experience of Curry's over the years is not to bother anymore.

Wanted a DVD player/HDD recorder, local shop had an ex display one, no box and later told no remote either, rather usless without the proper remote. And what a non bargain with 20% off.
Went to their major store a few miles away and ex display stuff was 50% or less. The one I wanted was much less.

Fridge/Freezer packed up the day before we were due to go away, Luckily there was little in there as we usually run them down.
Got back on Saturday and rushed off to the shop and put a deposit on one, Delivery date was over a week away so i rented a van on Sunday morning to collect it. When we got there the manager said that ones been sold, i said yes to us here is the paperwork. He said no and told the sales staff not to sell it to us and then went out the back and refused to come back out.

I was not abusive or angry or loud. So no reason not to speak to us.

I was still tired from the travelling and just needed to get the item and get our shopping to refill it.

Haven't used Curry's much in recent years but was very pleased when we bought a fridge freezer from them in August. They offered a great price on the model we wanted, with very generous cashback from Quidco which paid out very promptly. Delivery was free and within a day or two of ordering. A very satisfied customer.

I trust he refunded your deposit, before running away and hiding.

As currys is a large appliance store I would be surprised if I turned up and couldn't buy a fridge there and then.

it's a good outcome for the OP but I don't think being able to buy a fridge from a shop that sells fridges is that deserving of praise
  • And I'm sure they told you not to switch it on for 24 hours after delivery!

You may get a shock if you go to Selfridges

Because of modern refrigerators and freezers being more environmental friendly and efficient than units from a few years ago, they tend to have smaller compressors and less coolant so often take far less time to settle after being moved.
The user manual for the last one I purchased (Zanussi) recommended that it was left for 4 hours after installation before turning it on.

  • So, were praising stores now for having things in stock to take away on your own transport?
What next? A "praise" thread for the local chippy having chips?
