  • Nobody offers unlimited tethering any more. If you really need a lot of data they you should just get a mobile broadband package, no other options sadly. Even on Three's highest plan you get 12GB of tethering included.

I would use 12gb in a day or two, that is why I need unlimited

I think the answer may be to share neighbours wifi, will reduce their costs, just need to find one.

I think Mobile phone companies are missing out as they could steal biz from landline broadband companies
You may see performance issues with HD streaming over wi-fi. The router needs to be as close to your TV as possible with as few walls in between as possible especially brick walls. Internal walls are usually fine.

12GB in a day is 500MB every hour of the day. That's a lot of data.

Do you know how much you use or is this a guess?

I don't have a TV licence and constantly stream videos (movies and TV shows) some in HD and most in SD using the Amazon Fire Stick and it doesn't seem to use that much at all. If you were to watch about 4 hours of streams per day which is quite a lot then personally I'd advise getting yourself a land line broadband package which has unlimited data and much cheaper than any mi-fi mobile broadband product you might find....however you would be contracted for 12-18 months.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Get a broadband contract. The latency, contention and ul/dl speed will make it worth the £££

Hello Mr Neighbour, I would like to use your broadband connection. I will only be using around 350GB a month and using that amount will probably have an impact on your use by maxing out your connection at times

That sounds like a medium-high Virgin, not excessive. Get into TB's and Virgin traffic management comes in.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Thanks for making me laugh! When you put it like that sounds bad.

Thing is I could spread it around, and I can limit my impact.

Fact is that the ISP's all consolidate our data so if I paid for a service it would impact them anyway.
Yes but ISPs consolidate on a very large pipe going back to the backbone (in simplistic terms) whereas using a neighbour's broadband it is being consolidated on a lower max speed wire back to the exchange. Another factor to bring into the equation is whether they have a capped connection. Would you be willing to pay a year's worth of price difference to upgrade the neighbour to unlimited if need be? I would think any upgrade would have a minimum 1 year term

I'm on 'up to 38MB' as is the whole village. 28MB in reality. However if I am downloading ISOs the streaming to my TV starts to stutter. I could probably deal with that by setting up QoS on my router to give priority streaming.

However the good news for the neighbour that you 'borrow' off is that wifi will naturally limit your download speed.

My opinion is that your data usage precludes using somebody else's connection unless you are willing to throttle back your usage
