    I've been Money Tipped!
Did he get the ring designed specially? Can't he just return it and order the same ring in the right size?!

Really not a good idea to send jewellery through the post, even insured with Parcelforce . It's usually not covered, uder thier terms and conditions

Also it could be subject to import duty upon reentry to the country.

Better to have the stone remounted.

The ring wasn't purchased in New York - that's where he proposed - so no question of duty being payable.

They returned the ring to the jewellers so no issues with postage/insurance either.

I don't know the exact price of my ring but a few 1000s, it's been sent back about the times, each time the company send a paid for bag and I just need proof of paying, they cover insurance etc.

Might be worth asking if they could do this?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

A resize from P down to K is a huge change. My wedding ring finger is K, my middle finger is M which is 2 sizes smaller than a P and a ring that size wouldn't stay on my wedding ring finger even with another ring in front of it.

I sometimes watch the jewellery sales on the telly and some of the rings on there are sized at a single size of P and you can tell from just looking at them that the style can't be re-worked down to a K.

no, resizing that much and keeping the original design would not be possible. However, if you went to a jewellery 'designer and maker' he could remake the design for you in your size. perhaps use the excess gold as part of his fee or to make the design slightly 'chunkier' in the band.
  • If it was from a chain like Beaverbrookes they should be able to just swap it. As others have said some settings can't be resized more than one or two either way as the stone setting changes too much. The jeweler who made my ring didn't set the stones, it was sent elsewhere for that and so I don't think it's an easy thing to do.
  • I'd say no to marriage. Can't get the right ring size...he ain't ever going to be able to organise a wedding

    Stay clear, you'll thank me

Random, very appropriate name btw, how on earth would he know what ring size his lovely girlfriend is? I didn't wear any rings before I got engaged so my dh wouldn't have had any way of measuring. I think the jeweller should be liable to change the ring. Advising the OP's now fiance to buy an extra large ring, that could not be altered greatly, was wrong and they should help with any costs.
