Worth switching gas supplier?

Is it really worth switching gas supplier? I am with British Gas, and were I to switch I could save roughly £250 per year bringing the yearly gas bill down to about £400. This assumes the BG price per unit stays fixed. One concern is that the switchers give a more up to date price, but BG will in a month or two come down anyway, negating benefits from switching.
Also, are the other suppliers okay? Looking at a comparison site, BG and SSE have 4 and 3 stars for service (I've never had problems) , but some suppliers have only 2 stars. It's hard to know what that really means.

IMO if you keep on top of your billing by reading the meter regularly, checking your bills and statements to ensure that payments are coming out of your bank account and being recorded by the energy company and making sure that you don't accept estimated bills by sending in your own readings then you shouldn't have too many problems.
It seems that most problems are caused by those who suddenly find that they have a ginormous debit (or credit) because they haven't kept an eye on what is happening.
To answer your question, it's up to you to decide whether BG is deserving of £250 more than others for the same product delivered in the same way. Do you go to the most expensive garage for fuel or pay twice as much for your groceries because you cant be bothered to shop around.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Are you on a standard tariff with BG?
If it is then your price won't come down - you need to switch to take the benefit. Use actual consumption figures for the last 12 months to get a reasonable guess of future charges.
Be prepared for a bit of hassle but you likely to be better off but £250 is doubtful.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks. Robin9 why is £250 doubtful? That was the price I got from this comparison web site:

Another site gives at least £200 as the saving from many suppliers.0 -

You are on BG's most expensive standard tariff and paying on receipt of bills, so it is not surprising your bill is so high.
So yes you can save over £200 by switching to an on-line tariff and paying by Direct Debit.
You don't say what electricity tariff/company you are with, but there might be considerable savings on another tariff.0 -

It's been a long time since I swopped from a Standard tariff and hadn't realised quite what a significant difference there was.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

This is called the 'Money Saving' forum and you are asking if you thinks it's a good idea to reduce your expenditure by nearly 40%
Hmmm
