Wednesday 23rd December. What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    Morning all :)
Thanks for the start Jonno :)

    Today's list:
    Chickens fed Done
    Dog walks x 2 OH and I did 1 each :)
HM meals from stores Done, managed to use up a few leftovers / bits too. Made braised pheasant with celery and sage for supper, and will be making soup from the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I currently have the bones in the SC to make stock :) Followed by HM rhubarb pie with giftedposh ice cream :D
    Loaf in BM Done
Load of washing, peg on the line if it doesn't rain - looks ok at the moment :)Got a few bits dry, then the heavens opened and soaked the rest  It is on the airer now :(
Try yet again to ring old dental practice and cancel appointments - I am assuming that a) their phone is now working, and b) someone will be there to answer it  No wonder I have changed! Oh no I forgot this - will probably need to wait to the New Year now, though I will try tomorrow :o
Plan food properly for the next few days - I will have multiple people to feed, especially on Boxing Day when I think there will be 16  My little house will seem VERY much smaller than usual :rotfl:I think I know what I am doing. Will need to do some cooking tomorrow and prep on Christmas day
Buy last few bits needed - I will walk, and it will be to Waitrose, which is closest and least likely to be manic. It will only be things like lettuce and a few more potatoes, their essentials range is no more expensive than most of the others, and it always keeps well. It was completely manic, with queues the length of the store :( Got a few bits, and if we don't have it now, we can do without it!!
Start baking / cooking. Mince pies and Christmas gingerbread stars today I think :)Made loads of mince pies (used up last 2 jars of HM mincemeat :)), will probably need to freeze some, but the stars will need to wait till tomorrow.
Pop along to sales unit whilst out Done, one decent item had sold (and possibly some little bits as well, can't always see where the small bits have been). I popped in a packet of biscuits for the lovely ladies who run the shop :)
Deliver Christmas cards to neighbours - seems a bit daft, but they give them to us, and we like to be friendly :)Done
Any surveys, FPL etc Done, also a couple of postal survey tasks
And oops, I need a last minute present  Got a really pretty vintage necklace from one of the other dealers in the shop my unit is in - only £3 :) Has pretty red stones - only costume jewellery obviously, for the price. Hope she likes it!

I'm sure there will be more, so will pop back later to update :)
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible - especially CCL!
  • Good morning all :)
As always, thanks for the positive words and encouragement. I am still all about survival rather than being particularly MSE at the moment. And I am absolutely exhausted - I feel as though I never stop, but am never any closer to being finished. Ah well.
Here's today's list. You will see that there's lots on...
:) Check banking and sort budget for next month
    :) Read Martin's email
:) Delivery of Christmas veggie box
:) Smart gas and electricity meters are due to be fitted today
:) Visit my sister's family as it's my niece's birthday (this is stressful enough without everything else going on)
:) Present wrapping - this is becoming like having a nap. On my list every day but never getting done.
:) More work on the unicorn toy
    :) Visit dh
That seems like nothing but it is absolutely loads - before I even think about the state of the house, meetings I have to attend, feeding us etc. Ah well...
  • Sometimes cat when things are really rough with dd I have to par down to just doing the absolute basics. This is when I try to only give myself 2 or 3 things to do.sometimes nothing is more important than just looking after my basic needs. If your best friend was under insurmountable strain you wouldn't be then piling on more things for her to do would you? You'd be saying sit down have a cup of tea and blow enduring

Last day at work today :D finish at 4 and then I'm off for 4 days :D woop woop :D (as you can tell just a little excited :P)
Woke up this morning feeling sick, couldn't eat :/ didn't get off to sleep for ages last night either. I have no idea but at least I will now have a few days off to relax and enjoy my time with my family :)

    Good Morning Everyone

Jonno - Thanks for starting us off today!
CCL - DNMS gives great advice

To all that asked yesterday, Christmas lunch will be fine, luckily the oven is electric and we have a microwave so the only thing I may struggle with is the potatoes.

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

Feeling extremely low, today I will:

Packed lunch for DH - Done
    Check Banks - Done
Stripped DS's bed and re-make as mum will be staying for a few days -
Stripped our bed and re-make -
Last few bits of shopping (as no time tomorrow as we have to travel to stepsons with all their gifts and then on to his ex-partners to see eldest grandson) -
    Continue purge on Emails -
    Enter a few comps -
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer -
Check https://www.freepostcodelottery.com - Remember there are now 5 chances to win -
    Check Lucky Phone - Done

Have a good day! Love to you all!

  • Hello all, thanks for starting Jonno

Well it's the first day of my Crimbo holidays and I was up at 6.30am and at the supermarket for 7am! I thought I may as well get it out of the way. By the time I came out it was already getting busy, and later this morning cars were queuing to get in! I managed to stick to the list we wrote last night and OH has picked up the Christmas meat so we're all prepared

We took the poochy for a blustery but sunny walk this morning. She was absolutely caked in mud by the end of it so she was straight in the shower when we got back. The walk was so much better than being at work :j

Hoovering done, banking checked, one load of washing done and another in the machine, took loose change out of my purse and put it in 1p, 2p and 5p money bags which I do until they reach £1/ £5 and then I pay them into the bank

Still need to do ironing, clean bathroom, hang up washing, FPL and read Martin's email

  • Afternoon all

Thanks to Jonno for starting off the thread

ccl, ziggy and anyone else who needs support at the moment, I know that I can't do anything to help but I am thinking of you

lego_mum - ah you're not near me, we obviously have twin retail parks! (It was also a comment you made about the weather - it was doing the same here)

Thanks again for everyone's kind comments on blanky :) I made a start on my cardigan last night :o *addict*

Today has been very busy. We both slept until almost 9 this morning so we must have really needed it! We ninja'd into town to pick up our presents to each other (ordered and paid for but had to be collected.)

Once we got home, I put some washing on and made the pea and ham soup while OH started on his mum's Christmas present. We are making a set of up-cycled decoupage drawers. We already had the drawer set but they needed some hammering back together.

Then I iced all four Christmas cakes (for me, my m-i-l and both sets of neighbours) while OH was painting drawers. Then we did the decoupage and finished the edges in gold. I hope it will look nice when it's all put together.

We've tidied round now and cleared up so OH is having a bath and I'm going to post here, while having a cup of tea and a slice of mum's home-made chocolate log that came home with me :)

Going to run down and wrap OH's pressies while he's still in the bath!

Tonight is snuggles on the couch, crochet and Christmas movies :)

I love being off work :xmassmile

    Have a lovely evening all
