Name formatting on debit/credit cards

I can only speak for RBS Group here but we are able to display your card name to your preference. I don't imagine it being much different in other banks. We type them ourselves so it should be possible.
Awkward when you're sending Stephanie a card and write Seph instead...

How would the formatting of your name on your card stop Waitrose checkout staff to call you by the name printed on your card?
Have you considered changing your checkout operator? Or are you fancying them as much as they fancy you? An invite to a date might be in order in this case....
A friend of mine has just become a grandfather to the grandchild of the woman who accosted him some 40 years ago at the local Waitrose checkout....and so far, they lived happily ever after
The formatting of the card could remove my first name, so that they have to address me with Surname :rotfl: I was responding to someone saying that nobody ever reads the card name anyway.
He's a man (and so am I) so a date is off the cards! Meanwhile I'll take some avoiding action at the checkout:p

Just as an historical aside.
Many, many years ago I was told that cards were issued with the customers full name and / or title as a small protection against fraud.
In a time when cards were actually handed over to the person you were paying, it was hoped that it would be noticed if a man handed over a card with a woman's name on, or vice versa.
Of course, in the days of contactless and PIN transactions, this is no longer so important, but it is considered a good thing to have a title or ful name on the card.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks for replies.
It seems that some banks allow customers to change the name format on the cards. Will give them call to see if they can change the name formatting for new cards when my current ones expires.0 -

The only time that I've ever seen someone stopped because of the name on the card was in Tesco; he handed over a staff discount card in one name and a payment card in another.0 -
Nationwide do (or at least give you an option of a couple of formats.) I had mine changed when I opened a FlexPlus in branch a few years back.0

I bet typos happen a lot then!0 -
I had an HSBC card with my full name, middle name included.
It was changed to initials and surname at my request. Giving away a middle name could compromise security.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0
