Using o2 mobile in Australia

I have been in Australia since 8th Dec. Before I left I called o2 Mobile calls 80p per minute Texts 40p I have not made any calls sent a few texts .
The same no shows on my charges I think she said 55 digits per single so more than this would accounts for current charge £8 40
Received text Sat to say Data was £6 per ? 5 MB looked on account and yesterday says 24.5 used charge £32 ?
I knew to turn off roaming Data but like at home turn it on going town
I am using WiFi here in my Brothers home The WiFi I did turn on and connected with shopping centres etc
I have got a tablet so using that at home Because of the chance I have taken the SIM card out of phone Spoke with girl in Vodaphone shop my SIL uses it
She says I can use camera take photos and go on using WiFi here
My Son got me to download ? An App with a V also have got the What's App someone here suggested
I have bought a phone card 10 $ which gives me 900 mins with codes etc No initial charge
my SIL has a pay as you go and I could you some money on it if we lose each other whilst shopping eg
Any other advice or comment I would appreciate My Son did phone me on the App he told me to download but it kept losing connect I was also unsure which buttons Red us obviously end call White button middle seemed to be the ringing and to the side a green button Nothing much was happening My phone is Motorola 3rd generation My Son is iPhone
I accidentally touched his numbers and it was ringing . I quickly realised it was around 6 am He sent me a message later in the day said 6 20am
I have read some horror stories so want to make absolutely become the next one
I am 73 so not new to internet but fairly new to Smart Phone For now the email messages are still coming in on phone but it says no Sim
Do you think I have covered every possibility
