I can't even get a first account. Same thing, reasons below, but it's blank. Also they will confirm by email, nothing came.

Phone calls go round in circles between departments, nobody can do anything about a so-called technical issue. I'm told on the web page and someone on the phone to write to a department called Personal Lending Decisions, despite not wanting to borrow any money. So I have. If they look at my Lloyds account, they'll see why not.

The other day i applied for my first account on line and was approved. I received a phone call this morning from BOS to further validate /security check my application.

Maybe they are carrying out further checks due to the number of accounts/new customers.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I too got denied a second Vantage account but I am wondering if this happened as my first account wasn't fully operational.

I transferred money into the account via online banking however when I received my debit card and tried to use it, it didn't work. I tried an online purchase (amazon), then at a cash machine & finally in Tesco, and each time it failed. I phoned the bank and they said I had to go into a branch to provide ID to unlock my account.

I didn't receive a letter or phone call requesting I do this which is why I didn't realise I needed to provide ID. Or maybe it said so in the letter with my debit card or at the end of the online application and I missed it.

Could be the reason why I was denied a second a/c.

I'll provide the ID and then apply again. However I think I will do so over the phone this time in case it was not related to the ID thing and any further online applications will still be rejected.

I lodged a complaint about this with BoS and got a call this morning. Spent a long time on the phone, mostly waiting for the caller to liaise with the internet banking team. Nothing was resolved of course, but I think they said they were going to get me an answer in a couple of days. They asked when I tried opening the second account so that they could look at the logs. There are some plausible reasons for the failure to open a second account in this thread but I firmly believe it's a problem with the BoS website's back end. And I say that because it's existed for ever - or at least back to when I was trying to open Lloyds Vantage accounts. With Lloyds I ended up going into branch to open the second and third accounts. We'll see how this plays out.

I opened my first and second account within minutes of each other, but when I tried to open a third one a week later, it was declined.

Declined 2nd account 2 weeks after opening first and depositing £5k:

Thank you for applying for a Bank of Scotland current account.

Unfortunately, based on the information you've provided, you haven't met our account opening requirements at this time. However, it may be worthwhile reapplying in the future.

To help us reach a decision, we use a credit scoring system along with our lending rules. Our credit scoring system gives a continuous credit score for a customer based on the performance of their account and on monthly information provided by the credit reference agencies. You can find more information on credit scoring in our Security and Privacy section.
  • Hi

I applied for a first account on-line, and had to take proof of identity in. A week after that .... the account was open, so I paid 3k in.

I waited until I received internet banking activation code through snail mail, and got that working .... then applied for a second account on-line from within internet banking .... but I only got offered a cash account.

So I rang them up and got a second Classic Vantage. It did take a while on the phone .... I thought there was going to be an issue .... but think they were just busy.

It took a couple of days for that to show up on-line ... but when it did ... I paid 3k in.

A couple of days later .... I applied for a third account from within internet banking again ... and again only got offered a cash account.

So .... I rang them up ..... and they still only offered me a cash account :-(

She said it may be because I have opened up a few other accounts, with them and other banks, in the last few weeks and that I may get another one if I try again in a couple of months ....

Has anyone had any success applying a few months after being declined an account over the phone in similar circumstances?

    Thanks

Same for me - I got my first account yesterday with no problem. I then applied for a second account but was refused and there was a link to two credit reference agencies - experian and callcredit. This is the first time I have been refused - I have a number of current accounts and need a home for the money in a santander 123 account which I am closing soon due to the fee increase.

Interesting. I too am trying to find a home for Santander 123 money and opened 1 BOS Vantage online yesterday with no problem. I was going to wait a week before opening another one.

To follow up on my previous post, I provided ID then re-applied for a 2nd account over the phone a couple of weeks later and got accepted.

For those being declined a second account when applying online it is worth trying again by phone.

How do you take id in? Aren't all the branches in Scotland or can you go to a Halifax branch?

I am wondering if i should even try and apply for another BOS Vantage account considering the problems people are having.
