Denied Second Bank Of Scotland Account

Options
My wife and I are in the process of transferring money to Bank Of Scotland, to take advantage of their 3% Vantage accounts. We're opening separate accounts, so hopefully 6 in all. We've both successfully opened the first one (and were amazed to see that they were listed under our Halifax internet banking - but that's another story). Anyway, my wife has just tried to open a second and been denied. It says to check the reasons below, but there are none. She opened the first on Fri 18th and tried the second yesterday 20th (from within BoS internet banking -l ogged in using her Halifax credentials). Don't know if that was too soon perhaps. Tried again today (21st), from outside internet banking, and she was refused again. Any suggestions as to how to get this to work for a second account? BTW, she's never been denied an account before (and she has lots of them!).

Halifax/BOS are one (HBOS), for whatever reason (good for us) they display all BOS accounts under Halifax.

I noticed a similar topic here with the same issue some time back, my only suggestion would be to call and ask them to take a look at your account manually.
  • I think BOS's online application system is a bit too picky at the moment. I've heard this happening on several occasions. The simply solution is to ring them up, and you normally find they'll allow you a second Classic Vantage, then 24 hours or so later your third.
    Hope this helps.
  • Same for me - I got my first account yesterday with no problem. I then applied for a second account but was refused and there was a link to two credit reference agencies - experian and callcredit. This is the first time I have been refused - I have a number of current accounts and need a home for the money in a santander 123 account which I am closing soon due to the fee increase.

The same thing happened to me, including the 'see reasons below' which was blank. I don't actually need the account until February so I was just going to apply again in a month or so. I'd be interested to hear of you have any luck ringing them up.

IIRC I'm sure if you look back over this forum, you'll find that this is a common problem. You can open further accounts, but not through the online process.

I've opened my 2nd and 3rd online and both were done minutes apart but it does seem some people are getting declined for an unknown reason.

Are you trying when logged in to internet banking or just like a new customer from the standard BOS website?

When trying to open a second account, her first attempt was from inside internet banking, second outside.

Yup early last month, at the same time I remember a topic with the same issue.
