Whats wrong with car insurace this year. :(

hi all


I just received renewal quote from my existing provider which was a shocker anyway coz generally you have to haggle a bit on renewal.


so last year I paid 550 for myself and my wife, renewal came for 950..


goCompare and compare the market cant find me anything less than 990 with excess of 3000 ....


usual cheap suspects like elephant and admiral are missing from the searches..


whats going on ? I now have a NCD for 4 years which is an year extra from last time, nothing has changed in terms of my driving or my partners driving..


please help me find a better insurance and kindly tell me if anything has changed since last year.

Have you asked your current insurers if they can lower the quote or better yet have you got a new quote as a new customer from the insurers website but don't use your real details.

Maybe there's been a rise in claims in your area.

I haven't called them yet, just reading about insurance premium tax increase, but still more than 50% extra sounds extortion !!

There could be a few factors that determine an insurance premium. However a rise of the above is very high .

That's the same company as Admiral and Elephant. If they've spotted you as a renewing customer that will explain why those brands won't quote for you over a price comparison website.

Perhaps Admiral group were much cheaper for than the other companies last year, and have now removed your new customer discount, or otherwise changed their prices, so that they're more in line with the rest of the market for your type of profile. If so there's not a huge amount you can do, besides check all the price comparison sites, and the companies which don't appear on them (Aviva and Direct Line are the big ones which aren't on any comparison site).
