Before going ahead you should make sure that all your drivers are up to date and that your pc is actually compatible with Win 10.

My partner has a netbook running Win 7 and has the Win 10 'invite' which I clicked through to see what it said. According to Microsoft her netbook was ok to upgrade but when I checked the Acer site it said that they weren't providing Win 10 compatible drivers for it.

Under the circumstances we are staying with Win 7.

It may pay you to google your model of pc to see if other users have reported any issues before going ahead.

    Hope this helps.

It's 'cos I registered with them for something (probably the Windows Insider program).

    I've had emails as well : 29/04/15, 01/10/15, 09/11/15 and 22/12/15.

Had a new laptop in April 2014 with Windows 8 installed. Had to enter my email address during setting it up and updating to Windows 8.1. Then received emails from Microsoft with verification codes for my Microsoft account.

Haven't upgraded yet though - still pondering.

EDIT : I may have had more and just deleted them but I still have the ones mentioned above.

You didn't have to enter your email, they just cleverly phrase it as you need to. :)
    More information harvested.

The only one they have for me is a unique one for the Insider Program, and I've only ever received Insider related emails.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • I'm a bit (lot) of a dinosaur unfortunately.

The old Toshiba died (Vista) so we had to get a new one - HP Pavilion with Windows 8. I just did as instructed on the screen in a blind panic.

I've unticked the options for automatic updates and I've got five or six updates sitting there, KB3035583, KB2976978, KB2999226 are three of them. Funnily, all the Windows 10 updates are in italics.
  • Bit off topic but I have just checked Windows Updates.

I've 5 Optional all in italics:

    KB2976978
    KB2999226
    KB3035583
KB3107998 - seems to be for Lenovo computers only
    KB3112148

    2 Important

KB3112336 - not in italics but seems to be Windows 10

    and

KB3104002 - Security Update for IE 11 which I have tried to install twice but failed @ 90%. Error Code 50070020. Clicked on support (or whatever it's called) and, hey-ho, there was no info. Had a google but haven't done anything yet.

I don't use Internet Explorer, don't know if that matters.
