When you switch suppliers but are still in credit with your old suppliers,is there a time limit they have to stick to before they repay you.

Not as far as I know, but IME they've all done it within a few weeks when I've switched away. Never been with one that has a bad reputation and/or has just been fined millions by OFGEM though...;)

As reported on MSE, with some companies it is far from straightforward to reclaim credit. In case there is a problem, ensure you have everything printed out before you switch.


If you have an on-line account, with most companies you will have no access to that account once you have switched.


Bear in mind that the switch could take several weeks and you will obviously have to pay the old company for any gas/electricity during that period.

If you have a lot of credit with existing supplier ask them for a refund before you start to switch.
