Not the most exciting presents to get when aged 7 or 8, especially for a little girl not particularly happy about having to wear specs. All received from a rather spiteful family member who always referred to me as "a strange child". The worst thing was having to write the ruddy thank you letters for the gifts!

My MIL once gave me a hand held vacuum for Xmas. "Perfect for getting the cobwebs off your curtains" she sniffed as I tried to look grateful. I never forgave her, nor did I remove offending cobwebs0
