Nope not now. Things change. I was meant to be going back to work but I can't now. It's been a lot to get my head around, unfortunately. Tho it was a good plan, any savings I had are gone, being disabled is really expensive.

  • My son has cerebral palsy and learning difficulties and they only allowed us on to the register in August 2015. We are currently private renting but we can barely afford it now as my husband has given up full time work to care full time for our son as he has epilepsy and needs someone close by to school.

We can't rent privately as with my husband being self-employed and myself only working part time we rely on housing benefit and this isn't exactly widely accepted by landlords in fact our current landlord has given us notice to leave the week I told him. Thankfully we have until May 2016 but the council aren't taking my son's needs into consideration yet.

We need adaptations and living standards that are suitable for him and can help his independence.

I've been advised by friends that it can be years before a suitable property will be available but others have said its been within months, it just depends how lucky you are.

Have you filled in a welfare assessment form? Have you had any contact from professionals who help your son who can write reports to assist speeding up the process.
