  • I did that first in fact I've been doing that for two days but I don't understand it. There's so much on there I'm not sure what I need to be looking for.
  • I have now received a letter saying they are passing it over to a debt collecting agency. Can they demand I pay?

Yes they can demand that you pay. They can also demand that you take Irish Dancing lessons. You can say "No" to either.

Post 4 of the NEWBIES thread tells you why it is safe to ignore debt collectors.

Stand by for a barrage of toothless debt collector letters trying to scare you into paying and then... most probably nothing. G24 aren't known for taking anyone to court, and hopefully it'll stay that way for a while.

I did say this would happen.

A debt collector has no more powers than you or I. The most they can possibly do is send letters asking you to pay. That's it.

Obviously they'll try and make it as scary as possible, and may well talk about court action, taking your pets into custody, and repossessing your house, but it's largely all b*ll*cks.

    Ignore them.

  • Thank you all for your advice, fortunately I have no pets. Hopefully this will all stop soon as it is a little scarey.

    no it will not

they have 6 years to take you to court, so it wont "stop soon"

the threatograms will continue for years, until 6 years has elapsed , when it "times out" under statute

so if G24 issue an LBC or an MCOL (court claim) within that time you need further help

but if all you receive are debt collector demands threatening armageddon or purgatory if you dont pay up, IGNORE them , its just words on paper, means nothing at all - dont even read them if it bothers you so much

but for an LBC or an MCOL, resurrect this thread and ask for help

ps:- the pets remark was a joke, a tongue in cheek remark

but yes they may threaten WW3 upon you and your 7 grandchildren and your 14 great-grandchildren if the alleged debt isnt paid ;)

Hi, sorry but I'm back again! I have now received a letter from a debt collector DRP. Referring to a court case: On 4th November 2015 a landmark judgement was handed down in favour of a parking operator who took a motorist to court for non payment of a parking charge... should I be worried yet?

Nope. Search the forum 'DRP landmark' to see the dozens of posters who've had this further threatogram in the tired old chain they send out - full of idle threats, with emphasis on 'idle'.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

    Oh joy.More bog paper!
Continue to ignore, even if you get more letters with ever more desperate and scary language written in BIG SCARY RED FONT!

Debt collectors are toothless and cant take you to court.
