RAC Breakdown Cover

Hi, I received a renewal quote for £247.39 from the RAC so telephoned them, they then reduced this to £110.98 and added 2 months on to the cover. A total saving of £177.64.

Barter for better.

If you have a Nationwide current account it costs £10 per month for UK & Europe breakdown cover, worldwide travel and mobile insurance. I find that much better value.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Nope, you should have taken your business elsewhere. If an insurance company tries that on me, they never have my business again.

What are you getting for your £110.98?

A few pennies more than that and i get trailer/caravan cover as well as their top package.

Yeah, then when you break down in Wales when you live in Notts, you ring them and they refuse to come because a local mechanic told you what the issue was and let you keep it on his property (despite doing no work on it) whilst you were on holiday.

So you have to pay the £400 towing fee. Lovely people.

Umm, no. When you ring them, the car gets taken to a local garage agreed by you, and you get a hire car to go home.
  • No, that scenario actually happened to me. That's why I said it.

    RAC that is.

Moral of the story: keep your trap shut and just give them the necessary info only

Did you have the arrival package? With that they will take you and the caravan anywhere you want.

They will even drop the caravan off and take you somewhere else after.

You're not wrong. Muggins here thought he was being helpful by letting them know they needed to send a recovery truck, rather than a man in a van, thus saving time. Mentioned the word "garage" and they left me to rot claiming terms and conditions.

(I looked at these terms and conditions and noted they only preclude actual work being carried out on a car, which didn't happen in my case the mechanic simply diagnosed it).
