Question on Sky - Out of contract and Moving House

Hi
Firstly thanks for reading and any advice. I have never tried to negotiate with sky and have just been paying my monthly fee. I've actually already moved house and have taken the card and put it in an old box there and it works just fine. However I now want to make it official and move the account and update as still on an old white sky plus box! I'm happy to sign a new contract, but want to get the best deal I can. Would you advise terminating the old account at the old house and starting a new account at the new house, or moving house and negotiating a better package. Happy to hear all thoughts as I have heard that moving house is a bit of a nightmare with Sky. Many thanks again

cancel your account, take a new one via quidco and get a shiney new box0

You are not out of contract, you are out of minimum term. You will need to give the normal 30 days notice to terminate at the 'old' address. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Call and cancel, ignore the 10-30% off they offer, tell them it's still to expensive and no thanks, then wait for them to call you back.
Then when they call you back say no thanks, it's still too expensive (unless they offer 50-60% off and a free box).
Then just when your 30 days notice is about to go and you're sky is about to be cut off (even better if you can go a few days with no sky) get on live chat (sign in to my sky and go that way) and tell them you'd like to give them one last chance to keep your custom. You'll be happy to stay with them if they can offer you 50% off your package and a free box.
If you didn't need a new box I'd say hold out for account credit too but having done several renegotiations for family this year they seem to offer the box or credit. Not both.
I did the above (there's also a massive thread of people doing the same you could read for info) for my Aunty who also had an old white sky box, she now has a new HD box installed for free and 50% off her package. They wouldn't move higher on the discount and I tried several times.
I got my cousin 60% discount and £100 account credit.
But unless you actually cancel they will simply give you a paltry discount because they will know you don't want to leave. The trick is to look like you want to leave and couldn't care less if you have sky or not.Sigless0 -
About 1 week before my Sky was due to switch off,I recently got 60% discount,£100 credit AND a new HD+ box - but had to take a package upgrade to achieve all that. Worth it tho' as the effective monthly payment is only a few p more than last year's 50% OFF deal.0
