Sim Only Credit Reporting:

I applied for a sim only contact the other day not knowing this would credit search me, looked at my experian report today and the mobile company has searched me so guessing there was a credit check done, if the mobile company did a check on me will they report to the agencies every month about my payments, from what I've read I understood that sim only contracts don't do this but if they do it will be another thing to help me build a history up which is a bonus?.

I believe they do, I had a sim only contact with O2 and it's on my credit file.0

Vodafone as well, pretty much all of them do on contracts including 30 day rolling ones0

Yes, and some utility companies will start doing it soon (if they haven't already done it).0

Yes they definitely do. 30 day rolling contracts are easier to get as if you don't pay, they can just cut you off.0

Oh i didn't expect this which is why i was surprised about the search on my file as i read that sim only contracts don't do credit checks or report on your file but in a way this is good for me as its another thing that will build my credit up so happy days i would say.0

Someone else posted here a while back that they had a negative marker on their report as a result of a 30-day rolling contract. They wrongly assumed that if they simply stopped paying at the end of the 30 day period and the contract would end, they didn't give the required 30 day notice, didn't pay the monthly payment and it got reported so just be careful with rolling contracts (I think it was Three). Standard sim-only contracts are still a long term agreement so not surprising that they report.0
