Hi
I know this is an old post but was just wondering if anyone had any advice still really confused with all this tax credit / universal credit stuff. Please help,
I've just changed my circumstances for ctc/wtc from 30 hrs to 25hrs a week, will i now be transferred to uc???? Or are they still not on that stage yet, any advice would be grate
Thanks smile ☺0 -
That last post is a really good question as I was wondering the same thing too, I have read that you will stay on tax credits as long as you don't do a (change of circumstances) well my partner is starting a new job at the end of May which is better paid so she will need to do a change of circumstances, will this mean we get put on universal credit or does changing your salary not come into this, it says for my area that changes from May will trigger a change to universal credit, so if this is the case I will try ring them up and change it before she starts her new job if this can be done.0

Well I know when you start a new job they now ask for old details of employment plus new ones an paye ref. So I would assume your in same boat as me, change of circumstances...
I was told an read it was new claimants and unemployed/ started work, for uc. But no one seems to know when people will be making the shift to uc from tax credits there is no information available it all says the same thing, change of circumstances and goes on about single claimants and people making joint claims but nothing else. So frustrating waiting game a want to know so I don't get over payed while they change my tax credit award or transfer me to uc0 -
We would rather not go onto universal credit for as long as we can help it if possible as it's less money with that, I think that best thing for one of us to do is call them up and ask, as like you I've read it's only if you make a single persons claim and that it doesn't affect couples yet, but then on the next page I am reading it affects everyone from May but if you keep your claim as it is your be protected from universal credits until 2018 time but if you do a change of circumstances it affects you immediately but will ringing them up and changing the salary amount count or is it just if you close your claim or take your partner off etc?.0

I don't honestly know, I would not of classed dropping my hrs as a massive change I will receive less tax credits because I won't get the 30 hr element. And I don't get housing benefit or anything so if I move to uc a lose more as everyone knows it's less an i can't claim housing benefit or any top ups... so I've lost an element any way we are reading the same links websites I am a single parent but still it new claimants or brake ups or declaring new relationship ect.... Not alot of advice for people who work an when0

I don't know if you will be put on UC but I think anyone on TC now is protected if the UC amount is lower. It's called Transitional Protection. However, a change in circumstances - increased wages, change from single claim to joint (or vice versa) - would remove the protection.0

Well story was
I have increased my earnings each year over past 3 since I came of maternity I always worked full time, but I can not work full time as single parent, I rang tax credits 22nd March to say I earnt more this year that I thought after getting my last payslip for the yr... Payed monthly.
They said thank you sent letter provisional payments 2016/2017 ect 10 days later
Then I rang 12April as my contract changed an reported that while there I also declared my loss of earning from jury service. Woman on the phone wasn't very pleasant hold here I earned more because js, an that I'd keep this year's estimate the same as pay rise July.... Then I've heard nothing since...
So worried sick over uc my online uc is less than the estimate of tax credit provisional for this next year, an every one who I read moving on uc has had a nightmare but no said what change of circumstances are.... They starting work, moving in with some one, coming out of work. I've read the websites an so confused
But thanks any information is grate cheers0 -
Yeah that's exactly what I've read, if you move to universal credit and your already on tax credits then your protected, but if my do a change of circumstances then that protection disables and you get the lower amount, but the question here is what apples as change of circumstances to make you get the lower payment, does changing your hours or changing how much you get from work class as a change of circumstances or does it just means if you go from a joint claim to a single claim and stuff like that, I think one of us should make a phone call to tax credits and ask to see where we stand with this.0
