EE Sim fraud??

Somebody impersonating me called the EE and changed my password and ordered a replacement sim.

I received a text message notifying me that the password on my account was changed but I had not changed it.
After sometime, I noticed that there is no reception on my phone.
Turned my phone off and on a couple of times and still there was no reception.
So I swaped the sim to another phone, still no reception but the other EE sim I have, was working fine.
Called up EE to be informed that I had called in the morning to change the phone password (the password you are asked to verify when you call them) and had ordered a replacement sim card but I had not done it.
They have inactivated the number now.
I am a bit worried now. How could he get through the security checks?
Why would somebody do it?
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

How did you get through the security checks if the password had been changed?

When customers fail the first line of security (password) companies usually ask other questions: total of last bill, payment method, date of birth, a number you've called during the last few days, etc.

Dunno. It's a lot of effort for little return. Did you find out where the new SIM is going? If it's your current address you can expect someone to be hanging around outside waiting to intercept your post.
