missing parcel now arrived

I ordered some goods from a large department store that failed to turn up , tracking showed "delivery failed - other reason" by the courier before any attempt had been made to deliver to my address. I had to make several very frustrating calls to customer services and send several emails but only ever received standard "refer to our website FAQs" in response until eventually they refunded my delivery cost. I then waited several more days before being advised that goods had been lost in transit , my money was finally refunded on the day they sent an email to say the goods had been returned - I dont know who returned them as they had never got to me . The original ( torn and part open) parcel has now arrived !!! will they be able to use my original paypal details and take the money from my account again even though the refund has appeared back in my bank account ? I do not need the item now as I bought a replacement when it didnt turn up . Am I right in thinking that I do not have to return it - I would rather donate to charity than go through the hassle of returning it as I cant face even more calls to their ridiculous customer service line.

You will need to return it. I would expect them to send a courier to collect it
  • Yes, call them and inform them of the situation and let them arrange collection. If they aren't interested or tell you otherwise, you can keep it.

I would say you have to return it, you have had the money for it returned to you so keeping the item IMO would be theft {or the company when it sees through checks}would be entitled to claim the cost.
I would contact the company, explain what has happened and offer to return it at their cost.
I am no expert it is just my feelings
  • will they be able to use my original paypal details and take the money from my account again even though the refund has appeared back in my bank account ? I would prefer to send parcel back at my convenience which may well be after xmas now.

Well until they've been spoken to you don't know how convenient/ inconvenient it's going to be.

A refund has been given so they are not allowed to just take the money again.

Just e-mail them and let them know that a cancelled and refunded order has arrived, so can they send a courier or prepackaged label to have it returned.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It's not your property to give away, they will find out you have 'received sometime soon as the courier will update the system, to save yourself some hassle contact them and organise a pickup...

No, they don't have your card details and they can't take a PayPal payment without your agreement (clicking a Pay Now button.)

Asking them for a prepaid returns label is probably the easiest solution unless you don't work, work from home or can ensure a courier turns up when you're off work.

You have been given the advice you seek, return the droids lol.

Phone them and let the customer service rep or manager decide what to do with the item.

You might find they tell you to keep the goods.
