CCJ From United Utilities

Agreed that the action of UU was absurdly heavy handed and should have been settled without recourse to court, but had you spent 5 minutes informing them of your departure and requested a final billing, then you would have wasted much less time sorting out the resulting mess. Unless the utilities are included in your rental, then they have nothing to do with the LL, they are the responsibility of the occupier to both register for and de-register. Never rely on an LL or agent to do this for you.
The problem with 'chasing up' is that the system is highly automated. The computer will generate a bill, a reminder, a red bill, a warning of court action to recover...all without human intervention. They don't phone you up or email you if a payment is outstanding. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Despite what's gone on I'd suggest that you check the credit rating sites (Experian, Noddle, Equifax) just to make sure that they haven't stuffed you with a default which might come back to bite you in the future.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Yes, good point.
UU are 100% at fault here. The chased a non-existent debt.
OP, did you say you've got the £6 back off the scumbags?0 -

They owed me £6.00 but this was written off on my court hearing. It was deemed that both parties cancelled each other out and none of us owed anything to the other but were responsible for our own court costs.
Just checked my credit report and the court judgement is on there. Is it possible to get it removed or does it stay there as the court did impose judgement against me at the time?
Thank you.0 -
As you didn't owe UU anything, and in fact they owed you, what was the reason for them taking you to court?
As you now have got a 'black mark' on your credit record I think it is worth exploring legal action against UU. There are some websites where 'legal beagles' contribute, or ask one of the tabloid papers if they would take up the matter - or Watchdog.0 -

CCJs should only appear on the CRA's files if you don't pay up. You better check this one. Nothing should appear. Importantly, check that UU have not smacked you with some sort of negative marker. They are one of the water companies now reporting their customers to the CRAs without permission to do so (not that they actually need it).0
