eBay issues: how long does it take to resolve your problems?

After being copied in on a tweet to our MSE Forum Twitter account we thought we'd see how long it's taken for you to get issues resolved by eBay if you've had them.

  • If you have what date did you report it to eBay via its correct report mechanism?
  • How many hours/days later was it resolved?
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

It seems like they have changed things since the last time I had a problem. Its not automatically opening a dispute as such as opening a dialogue between buyer and seller then saying they won't do for awhile.
Request started :title of item 13th Decemeber

Thanks for letting us know about the problem you had with this transaction. We're here to help.
    Next steps:
If you don't hear back from the seller or you can't sort things out, you can ask us to step in and help starting from 22 Dec, 2015.

The seller replied and its saying this now

To reply now, see your request details.
If you have not agreed on a solution by 22 Dec, 2015, you can ask us to step in and help. If you and your seller need more time to sort things out, your request will stay open until 12 Jan, 2016.
So its going to drag on I think. The seller of the item I bought has said "Dear Customer, Thanks very much for getting in touch, we do apologies for the inconvenience caused, we request you to kindly close the request you are a valuable customer we don't want to give you any hassle of returning the item, we will issue you a full refund as soon you close the request as refunding through the request will leave us under defect. Your's Sincerely

I politely told them I have been on ebay for a few years and wasn't born yesterday.

I reported a rampant scammer about 10 days ago listing high value camera equipment, iPads, Gold, and Macbooks.

I reported all the listings then phoned up Ebay to try to prevent people being scammed. I jokingly said I was phoning as I felt Ebay just binned reports and did nothing with them...!

Ebay did nothing, and now the negatives are rolling in!

To add insult to injury, Ebay even sent me a survey asking how I felt about my customer service interaction.

The question is a bit like 'how long is a bit of string?', it really depends on what issue you are having. It can also make a difference what level seller you are, as a TRS I get the phone answered instantly in Ireland but I'm not sure that is the same for everyone.

I had an issue with my expanded dashboard being wrong a few days ago, I got that resolved in less than 10 minutes on the phone. Yet querying the estimated delivery dates, which is a real issue for me, has never been satisfactorily resolved.

If you are talking mor generally then the system is there to cover a lot of issues, it's just that some buyers and sellers don't know how to use it. For example, getting FVFs refunded on a non paying bidder is clear and easy, but yet it comes up over and over again that sellers don't use the system and end up wasting time phoning and live chatting with ebay to work out why they have been charged fees.

Likewise with INR claims, paypal rules are clear and we have a sticky on here about it, yet some sellers still try and get ebay or paypal to find against the buyers on the basis that they must be scamming.

Just to add that I have sat and watched conversations on certain facebook groups where people are discussing ebay selling and I have tried to explain that they are being conned, and have been told I don't know what I am talking about . I can even point them to the relevant bit in ebay rules and still get told that I am talking rubbish because their mate said all they have to do is xx or YY and it will be fine.

That's why I feel so strongly about this forum, people come for advice and we can often help, and most of the time they listen. MSE might well have saved a lot of people money by pointing out a likely scam before it happens.
