  • you can still buy one bedders in Ilford/Romford area and because Crossrail is coming in their value should rise. You'd need to be quick though - my one bedroom flat has risen 40k in the last 2 years. some parts are near both mainline trains to Liverpool Street (20 mins) and the Central line. It's a really good way to get a foot in the door if you will live in it rather than BTL.

    Also consider shared ownership?

You say you want to buy in England. We have a 3 bed house, garage, good sized garden, parking for 2-3 cars (as well as garage). House probably worth around 95-100k, its in Sheffield mind...

Yes, why not consider a scam scheme like shared ownership. Buy a part of the property whilst the full price is entered into the land registry thus propping up over-inflated house prices.

Have you considered a scam scheme OP?

£27k is a low salary for London, considering skilled work such Plumbers, Tube drivers, Cabbies Etc are on £45K+, then £27K is typical of unskilled Labour.

With a half decent education or some skills, no reason you shouldn't be on circa £50K+.

Meet a partner with similar circumstances, then you will have dual incomes of £100k+, nothing stopping you from buying an average London home which is about £500,000.

Ivory tower comes to mind with your comments.

I wonder why tube drivers and on 50k plus. It doesn't necessarily follow that other wages will follow on the same level.

There are plenty of jobs paying close to minimum wage/minimum wage itself in London.

Suggesting to the OP that 27k is the level of pay for unskilled labour is ridiculous.

Median Gross Annual wage for Inner London is £34473 according to ONS 2014

Actually, the poster was responding to me, not the OP so the burning question is how can people afford to pay London house prices on minimum wage ?

That's a judgemental load of rubbish. It depends on what industry you work in. If you are in the financial sector or IT then yes, but there are plenty of jobs outside those areas in London. My daughter 4 years out of university with a good degree is still only on £26,000 - not all London wages are higher than the national average.

Tube & taxi driving isn't skilled labour. Tube = forward means go, backward means stop, check your mirrors. Taxi = majority of the population can drive with a satnav. Tube drivers are so overpaid and yet they strike every year demanding more.

If only university lecturers got close to that! They're closer to the £27k end of the market...

Those on lower salaries can't & the rest of us pay to maintain their rental lifestyle
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
