Nut allergy

  • This is the worst reaction I have had so far. Stomach cramping, vomiting, itchy skin, ticking throat.

In the past it has been the above but never the skin issue

You should of informed the staff of your allergy on booking, this would of ensured your food didn't come into contact with any nuts...You've only yourself to blame.
I am curious though the hazelnuts would be easily identifiable but neither you or any friends sat close by noticed them at the time or queried it further with the chief after your reaction started.... A complimentary night is genorous given the circumstances.

And you remained at the party for another two hours?
  • Yes i remained. The cramping had stopped. There would be nothing i could do about the itching when I had got home

Don't know if you know which nuts you're allergic to, but my daughter is most allergic to hazelnuts; that may be the reason you had such a severe reaction. Of course, it may be that the allergy is getting worse, quite normal I'm afraid.

To those who seem to believe it's the OP's fault, a waitress should always check with the chef - he's back-room staff, she's the link between the two, the one liaising with customers. Trouble is, so many people have 'intolerances' now that perhaps the whole thing has become something to be treated lightly.

In my experience, it makes no difference who you speak to; recently, my daughter ate out and advised the management beforehand about her nut allergy; she was served afternoon tea featuring cakes with hazelnut toppings.

Do you also suffer from hayfever?
  • Im glad to hear a response from someone with an allergy. I think that I checked it out should be enough. I dont think calling ahead or informing would of made a difference since both staff told me no. It would of been the same staff serving the food on the night.

Even if you call ahead the only thing they tell you is that they have nut free options. If i was to avoid every place that even had nuts on the menu I would miss alot of social opportunities if not all of them where food is served. While I understand things are prepared in the same room etc I dont expect them actaully in my food. And no both people sat at the side of me looked and couldnt see the nut topping either - had it been obvious I wouldnt of ate it

    Take an antihistamine.
    Apply steroid cream.
If sufficiently severe, go to hospital.

I'm beginning to doubt whether you have an allergy or not. The things that you consider unnecessary are things that those with genuine allergies have to do everything single day.

So maybe it wasn't on it?
since it seems to add weight to posts.
I am someone who gave up my career through food allergies.

Where would I have got steriod cream and antihistamine at 10pm on a Saturday?

I think its very rude to doubt somebody's allergy. Mouth tingling, stomach cramp, vomiting and itching all sound like a very real allergy
