When applying and getting accepted for a second credit card with the same provider, which of the following will happen:
1. Brand new/seperate credit limit for the second card
2. Credit limit of first card will be split to be put on the second card (e.g. first card credit limit is £4000, then second card has £1500, leaving the first card witg a credit limit of £2500).
Particularly interested in having either a second Barclaycard or a Halifax one.

It will be the first.
Though I'm not convinced that you'll get accepted.
[Though you can easily add a second card holder, if that's what you mean?]0 -
Thanks for the reply.
Not adding a second card holder.
Why won't i get accepted for a second dard with the same provider?0 -
Barclays no longer offer a second card if you already hold one, only ones I know who do are MBNA abs maybe try one in the same group but different brand like marbles and Aqua although these are designed for poorer scorers.

Oh and Halifax don't but you can get another in the Lloyds group such as bank of Scotland or Lloyds.

I originally phoned them to see if they would upgrade my Clarity to a Reward Clarity, but they said I couldn't, instead suggested I get a new card. Which is even better, as I can use one for cash and the other for spending without any confusion as to what I need to pay off to minimise interest, plus having another fee free card for use abroad.
To answer the OP's question - I got a new credit limit with my new card without having anything taken off the limit on the old card. They also said I could move limits between the cards eg take £1000 off the old one and shift it to the new one, but I've not tried it yet.0 -
Tesco Bank have started offering a second card. No splitting of limits though.#27 £2016 in 2016 = £763.61
#42 £2 Savers Club = £160
*Savers Club not included in overall 2016 savings until the tin is opened and my estimates have been confirmed later in the year.0 -
Yes they do, I got a second one a few months ago. Both Clarities!

Good to hear that Halifax allows customers to have two credit cards.
I was planning to apply online for another one through online banking. Did you apply for the second card on the phone or through online banking?
Was your credit limit for the second card more or less than the first card?0 -

The new limit was a lot lower on the new card, but they said I can shift the credit limits between the cards. The APR was higher on the new card, but that doesn't matter to me as I'll always pay it off in full and won't use it for cash, I'll use the old card for foreign cash.0 -
It depends on the banks (or issuers), I think. I used to have an MBNA business credit card. Then later I applied for and MBNA personal credit card. I got accepted but MBNA called me to ask how I wanted to split the limit between the 2 accounts as there was a maximum credit limit they could offer under my name.
It might have been due to my business account already had a high credit limit, that's why they couldn't offer me much more credit.0 -
