iD Mobile vs Three

I'm looking to get a new pay monthly - sim only - 4G deal at an affordable price.

I was initially veering towards £11/m on THREE with 2GB data

But with iD they have £10/m with 4GB of data
This deal is available via uswitch, and is different to the one on the website that is with 12 months of double data.

So how is the iD deal so cheap if it is much better than the Three deal, despite using the same network?

Cheers

whats the coverage like in your area ?

personally i would go with Three ( am already with them ) as they are an established company

  • iD are run by CPW so aren't exactly nobody's.

And I should get good coverage in my area with Three's network, which iD use too.
  • It's a good deal, but won't come with the extras that Three provide, such as personal hotspot and the ability to use it in certain countries at no extra cost.

If those are not important to you, then it is a good deal in my opinion.

ID do allow the use of your allowance abroad, if you have a 24m contract

I think it's on the plans called 'Takeaway', there are 12 month versions of these.

When you buy your contract from three you go to them and say "can I have a contract please" - they give it to you for £11 a month. If you have any queries you call them.

When iD buy a contract they say "can I buy a million contracts from you, we'll take care of the dirty smelly customers, just sell us the airtime"

It's then up to iD how it's sold, within the limits stipulated by their contract with Three.

But you have to admit it is bizarre, how a third party MNVO can offer a better deal than the hosting network can?

I think MNVOs such as iD seem to save money in the customer support department and technical department as they don’t have a network to maintain, and any queries that need further attention get referred to the host network (which can be quite annoying as the person you speak to often cant do any more than send an email to the host network).

My experience of iD hasn’t been great but I have been reasonably happy for the money. I'm on a £10PM 30 day tariff that has 500 minutes, 5000 texts, and 4GB of data which was offered directly by iD during the black Friday events.

Unfortunately when this was offered I was already an iD customer on the same tariff without the doubled data (£10PM 30 day tariff that has 500 minutes, 5000 texts, and 2GB). Luckily my 30 day contract had expired so I figured it would just be a case of calling up and changing tariff. WRONG.

iD mobile are having serious issues with their IT systems which means you cant change tariff, and are often unable to log into your account to check your allowances or change details. In order for me to take advantage of this deal I had to port my number to EE and then back to iD on a new contract! This took a week to sort and there systems outage meant I was without my number of 15 years for longer than needed. Its all sorted now but I wasn’t happy with the hoops I had to jump through.

In short if you can put up with terrible customer service and unstable account systems you can get a really good deal. As for do I recommend iD? well I guess it depends on how much you value good customer service.
