Quicken XG 2004 UK version

Has anyone successfully installed and ran Quicken XG 2004 UK version on Windows 10? I know that it works in compatibility mode on Windows 8.1. Thanks

  • Hi Buffman

Quicken Deluxe 98 works fine - just a bit of playing to install - but sorry cant comment re XG.

I would be tempted to just give it a try - if its a question of whether to upgrade is there anyone with W10 that would let you try?

I have recently successfully reinstalled Quicken XG 2004 on a new Windows 10 PC (64bit). I used the original installation CD and let it default the directory. The program installs into the C:/Program files(x86)/Quicken directory. The only 2 issues I had were the missing files mfc70.dll, msvcp70.dll and msvcr70.dll which need to be in this directory, so I transferred them from my old machine (might be possible to find them online). I imported my latest backup and all was well. I just needed to stop the program continually asking me to register.

I then found the following on the Intuit site which did the trick.
    1. Hold the CTRL + SHIFT key.
    2. Click on the Tools menu on the top menu bar, then select One Step Update.
    3. Click OK. You will no longer be prompted for registration.

Many thanks ribbo. Did you install it using a compatibility mode (as I did in W8)? I currently run Quicken in W8 using W7 compatibility mode running it as an administrator.
The first time you instructed Quicken to back up your data, are you able to choose a file location or does it just hang?

I didn't explicitly run in compatability mode although I have a vague recollection of doing so when I set this up on my last PC running Windows 7 about 5 years ago (although I might be getting confused with other software). I was able to successfully choose a drive location for backup straightaway, I just specified the root of the drive containing my USB memory stick.

I installed Quicken 98 in win 7 and 8 by running the install program. Then I copied over all the files from a previous install done on Win XP.

    All works fine except:

The backup every so often refuses telling me my disc is full - but then later it will work
When I start I have a blank screen, click the restore down or restore up button and everything is there.

Don't know what I will do when Quicken stops working.

Just got a new PC with Windows 10, ran set up from the original Quicken 2004 disc, added the files you listed (I had them on my old PC from an earlier Windows 7 installation) Quicker up and running within 15 mins.

Good to here people still using the excellent Quicken software. Can not live without it...

As Intuit have started advertising their QuickBooks on major TV channels will they ever issue Quicken to the UK general public again?

Do they still market it in USA?

Quicken 2004 still works a treat in Windows 10. Such a shame we have to rely on such old software but there is nothing in the market today that remotely compares to Quicken. I could not survive without it.

I did the upgrade from 7 to 10. Quicken was already installed and continued to work, just had to change system date settings so it wasn't in the American format.

Same here, can't do without Quicken - why oh why did they decide the UK was not a worthwhile market?

I too uploaded the XG disk, found it would not operate without certain files and copied them from my old PC and off we went. I had an old work around for getting over the re-registration which was much more complicated than the one Ribbo gave, so thanks, Ribbo ' will be making a note of that one!
