Just to break everything down:
Agreed price: £5449
Part ex old car: £1000
Deposit Paid: £449
Remaining balance paid: £4000
and they are saying that the deposit should have been £500 2 weeks after sale.0 -
Pretty clear to everyone that you Dad's has paid the agreed price in full, which is all that counts. There's no more to pay.Just to break everything down:

Thanks guys and girls. Will pass on all the advice to my Dad.0

I could understand them saying two days after the deposit was paid "Oh sorry it needs to be 10% as its company policy (even though thats more than £500) but after asking the car was paid for...as above the words do and one come to mind.
Please do post their response though to whatever way your dad phrases it, be interesting to see what they say.0 -
Tell them you'll pop back on a saturday afternoon with your family and have a discussion in the showroom of why your being asked for more money! You can take the opportunity to warn other customers.0

which would have left the balance at £3950 so if underpaid deposit by £50, means he has overpaid the balance by £50
not sure why they cannot sort this out internally0 -
I bet the £50 is the salesman's commission or something."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

When I brought my Mazda 6 back in 2005 brand new, part of the deal was a full set of mats. A week later the salesman called me up, epecting me to pay for the mats which I refused. I can't think of any other retailer who has the cheek to ask for more money after the sale!0
