O/S Daily Friday 11th December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
I seem to have joined the insomniacs (sp?) club! Went to bed too early, and slept quite well, but then woke too early and can’t go back to sleep.
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work. DS1 taking some annual leave, so still in his pit. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, damp and has turned colder.
Dinner last night was lamb – it was lamb shoulder joints, cook from frozen, the flavour was lovely just not very big and didn’t have much meat on. I served mash, cauli, broc, carrots and gravy with it. Choc birthday cake for dessert. Tonight will be something and chips, easy dinner. DS1 is going out, so I’ll take him to his friends where they are meeting up.
I wasn’t particularly productive yesterday. I went to the shopping outlet, arrived and the shops weren’t opening for another half an hour, so finished up in Costapacket with a coffee, the shops are all in a pedestrian precinct but its outside, so with the blustery wind it wasn’t pleasant enough to wander around until the shops opened. I really struggled to find anything and was tempted just to come home, then remembered I’d been given a voucher for the sports shop that has a branch there, went in and asked if I could use it at that store and bought DS1 a couple of new t-shirts, which cost a grand total of £1 after I’d used the voucher. I seemed to then find some shopping mojo, and visited the perfume shop – spent quite a bit in there, nice smellies for both the boys and a perfume gift set with some freebies that was a real bargain for myself. DH doesn’t buy me anything, as he’s too lazy and can’t be bothered, (he says just to buy what I want throughout the year). I do bother and find it very hurtful that he isn’t bothered to go out and buy me a gift. So I choose and buy gifts for myself which get wrapped up and put under the tree – I’m a naturally very generous person, so make sure I’m generous to myself just once a year at xmas. Although I think he’s had a bit of a shock as on his birthday he asked what special dinner was I going to cook for him, and he was being a real grumpy git, and not very pleasant to be around, so before I could stop myself, I just said “the same as you do for my birthday, sweet f*** all”, the look on his face was priceless. I do buy him some gifts, and have always done so, I want the boys to see that sometimes you have to rise above other people’s actions and attitudes. His family are not very giving or generous either, so I know where it comes from, and it’s not because they are financially unable to do it, his mother particularly is very money obsessed, she see’s pound signs in front of her eyes. Money is the reason she hasn’t had anything to do with her 90 year old father for the past nearly 3 years – he hasn’t done anything wrong, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s re-written his will and she’s been excluded, not looking forward to that if he has as she’ll cause a riot.
This morning I’ll be heading to the SM for 8am, then I’m going to visit my bestie with the xmas gifts for her family. Will be good to catch up as haven’t seen her for ages. We had started meeting up every so often on a Friday lunchtime, as she was child free, but now her youngest has started nursery, she isn’t free on Friday’s anymore at lunchtimes, so I’ll just visit today between school/nursery runs.
Keep safe and well x

Haven't been on here in ages, life seems to get in my way, but I really do like these old style threads. Will make more of an effort in future.
I've only got as far as reading this first post, but I feel for you. I'm also one who doesn't do much for birthdays and the like, but unlike your oh, I then don't expect people to do stuff for me. That's awful. And think you were right not giving him a special dinner when he can't be bothered to do owt in return.
I do get nice things and make a fuss of children, but I don't have an oh, so maybe that's why I don't feel the need.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I slept until 5 this morning, so I feel much better.
I got most of my Christmas shopping done yesterday, just need to post a couple of cards today & then I'm done.
It seems everyone in my team is buying/wearing the same dress on the last day of term, I'm being very bah humbug, I'm not spending £16 on a dress only to throw it away. I've also refused invites to the 2 Christmas Do's, one is £30, the other is £45, but I'd have to add taxi fares on to that as I don't do night driving. I have joined in with one of the Secret Santa's £5 & the obligatory gift for the boss £6.50.
Time I fed the fish, have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Why would you be throwing the dress away after wearing it?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Good news Hilstep, Hugs RR & Mrs LW.
Pollyanna, it's a Santa dress, red with a white fur trim, not the sort of thing I'd normally wear and next year they would choose a different dress/jumper, so I'd never wear it again.

Oh right, okay. yeah, that makes sense then. Sorry, this is what happens when I just jump into a thread without knowing what's going on. Oops.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

No problem Pollyanna, I should have made it clearer.

I don't blame you for not wasting the money on the dress. If they had suggested everyone wear something red then it need not cost anybody anything and would have still been festive.

That is fantastic news!!!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

I really hope they can sort out the pain quickly for you.
Back to the drawing board as far as a new house goes. The place I offered for are unrealistic as to the price they want and it would need a new kitchen and bathroom, carpets, decor - the lot. I saw a chalet bungalow advertised today and will view it next Tuesday, nice area, two beds downstairs, one upstairs, good size lounge and kitchen and already modernised with nice carpets etc.
DD and husband come round tomorrow to bring their cat round to be looked after and then have the family round for Lunch on Sunday. Will show them the house details then and have a chat about pro's and cons.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"

:hello: Good evening everyone
(((Hugs))) to everyone, and wishing all poorlies better.
hilstep such good news for you.
I have woken up with a sore throat today, I just hope it doesn't get any worse as I just have next week to get through before I can collapse in a heap:rotfl:
DH is still out working, so he won't be home any time soon. I'm feeling a bit lonely, as DD is in her room and DS is working too, and I can't get motivated to do anything. I must get started with the Christmas shopping this weekend and start buying some presents. I will also start putting up the Christmas decorations as I don't think they will do themselves:xmassmile
Have a good evening everyone.SPC 11 #4450 -
