It is not amoral for the residents to keep their Winter Fuel Allowance. It belongs to the individual and how they choose to spend it, is their prerogative to do so, regardless of what type of accommodation they live in0

This a charity sheltered housing so the thoughts that these are for poor pensioners are very wrong £498 per month!!!
My late mother was also in sheltered housing and was paying a total of £554 pm -as you say, hardly for poor pensioners -HOWEVER, a number of the residents were being funded by the local Council!!0 -
Some of you seem to have the impression that those in receipt of benefit get benefit towards their heating - they don't. If you live in a housing property and part of the rent includes an element for heating any benefits paid will not cover the amount for heating. As for the tenants keeping the heating on and opening the windows what can l say except that particular housing association needs to get a grip of these tenants and get the fixed heating payment removed. Bet they're not so keen to open the windows when they get the bill. The only people who should give up their heating allowance are those who have huge amounts of money. People who bothered to save some of their hard earned money for their retirement should not be penalised. The Heating Allowance is exactly that and if people start giving it away the Government may stop giving payments on the grounds the money isn't being used it's intended purpose.0

How mean spirited everyone has become. I feel at the moment there seems to be real resentment targeted at pensioners(media led) because they get one or two extras on top of the very low basic state pension. The state pension in Britain is one of the lowest paid from a so called rich country. Pensioners receiving the heating allowance have often worked and paid for up to 50 years tax and NI. For goodness sake if you must be resentful redirect it to people who have not contributed to the moneypot in Britain, otherwise let the retired in sheltered accomodation or similar have the money:T0
