Thursday 10th December - What small DFW things will you do today?!

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:money:

    Morning All

Thanks for the start La E. Hope you had a nice time at the pub last night.

Tired today, just waiting my turn in the bathroom. Hoping a nice shower will blast me awake.

    List as it is
    1. Check banking
    2. PAD
    3. Walk all journies
    4. Think of a low cost evening meal
    5. Fill in new account paperwork and get it posted.

    That's it!

    Back later

    Bob

    Hi everyone :santa2:

Fancy a coffee to start the day? *passes coffee around...* :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Thanks Bob - had a lovely time thanks. It's funny you can be in the same house as someone but not really talk to them until you walk for a mile and sit down somewhere else. :rotfl:

OH was telling me about goal mapping - free stuff - http://goo.gl/fvpZbF - I know how we all like our lists/goals etc :D

Got a work's night out tonight - need to think about getting home - was going to drive but now I don't need to (not teaching later) but if I do drive I will defo spend less and will be easier than getting the tram home...I know I should go for that option....This budgeting lark does help focus the mind - our pub fund this month has £64 left after last night - and I reckon I'd rather that was spent with OH/real friends rather than colleagues... Harsh but true!! :p

Mum sent me money for something I bought for her - have put it towards a bill for next month :T

Bought 2nd class stamps for xmas cards... (small things, right?!)

    Happy Thursday!

  • Morning all :D
I am pleased to announce a semi return to normality. I was asleep by 9 last night and went right through until half six this morning - woke up thinking I felt loads better, but once I sat up the cough started again. But I am definitely better than I have been all week, even if my ribs are aching from all of the coughing.
    Here's today's little list:
    check banking and PAD
    aim for nsd
    meals from stores
 go and see ds being a donkey in his school nativity play
 make good use of my free time today
 try not to stress out
 finish marking the set of books I started yesterday
    plan for next week
 get dh to do something
Right, I think that's it - better get on my way.

    Hi,

Still not really got time to post lists just now. Just popping in.

Just finished an insanely busy 12 hour shift at work. Of the 400 staff I manage due on site 50 called in sick and we had dramas galore all night. OH calls me part way through the shift to say the cooker isn't working. Earlier I pulled it out to clean under it and must have loosened a wire. Waiting for daylight to have a look at it.

Anyway came home really wound up after work and had a non-MSE long shower...cheaper than chucking my job in frustration.

Then raided the fridge: Microwaved scrambled egg, a few noodles, a marzipan fruit and a satsuma. Random but economical.

    Giving myself a pedicure now.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all :)
Didn't post yesterday as I didn't get round to it (mainly due to Wednesday puppy / baby naughtiness combo :rotfl:) Also didn't do anything worthwhile listing - we even resorted to a takeaway in the evening, which we almost never do :o

Anyway, spendy day today, as my car is due for its MOT / annual service :(

    Apart from that:
    No other spending!
Wrap last 2 Christmas presents (STILL haven't done this :o)
Write Christmas cards (or this :o:o)
    Dog walks x 2
Make a loaf in the BM
    Load of washing
Cook a tough pheasant for tea - it will end up much nicer than it sounds :)
Postal survey task, any online surveys + check FPL
If I get time, take some things into sales unit, as I noticed gaps when I popped in yesterday :)

OK, I had better get ready to take the car in, as OH is primed to come and pick me up (garage is about 5 miles away so too far to walk there and back - for me, anyway, given I have lots of other things to do!)

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Morning all,
Just a few bits today as going out later:
*Wash hair & let it dry naturally.....tho will still need straightners.
*Do meal plans for next week when we are out a lot. On the nights we're home, I want cheap or no-cost meals from the freezer.
*Chop & soak all the Christmas cake fruit in bacardi......or rather own-label bottle which after this one will have done 3 Christmas cakes as neither of us drink it.
    *Write shopping list.
*Write Christmas food plans from 24th to 27th to cover period when we have guests.
That will be it. Nice surprise last night. Mr f (who tracks his nectar points quite closely as they are always saved up for Christmas) went to Sainso's for petrol & noticed he'd had an extra £10 of points from somewhere. He wasn't aware of any offers. His nectar total was £47, next time it was nearly £58. Odd, but not complaining!
Ok, must crack on. Got to leave plenty of time for glamming up later. Well.....not tooooo glam.....going to Jethro Tull Christmas gig so audience prob ageing hippy types & we will fit right in, lol.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Morning all. Thanks for starting us La E :hello:

Quick list as just about to pop out and run a few errands (should be working - whoops :o - although I never have a lunch break so it can be that ;))

Post card to Aus and a couple of others, worked out most can be hand delivered, even if 2nd hand
Wrap last couple pressies now I have paper from yesterday, get DH to get DD b'day present from loft whilst she's at nursery so we can wrap
Supposed to be going out tonight, be really cba. I'll see how I feel alter, will be cheap but need to see if my mood lifts. rest of meals from stores
see if I can find some festive cheer when I give the house a quick tidy round, might be under the cushions that need fluffing in the lounge :rotfl:
check banking - pay day tomorrow :j
    update present list
look at goal mapping thing posted earlier - thank you :D

    check back later :)
