in Credit cards
My partner has recently applied for an aqua card. Checks OK, received pin through the post and all of a sudden got a letter saying The credit card has been cancelled due to a recent risk assessment of the account and should be destroyed immediately! The card was not physically received yetWe used a single bank account on my name till recently, when she was added to the account. Lack of credit history comes to mind as a possible issue, but, if so, why haven't they declined in the first place?
No other applications/credit checks were done on her account
Should she give aqua a ring?

For whatever reason, you're marked as a high risk individual / couple.0

If you ring them they wont tell you, they'll just direct you to Equifax and or Experian and tell you to get the credit reports they have on you.
You could send off £2 to both and get a copy of her report (not you personally, your partner would need to do this) to see what crap, if any, the CRAs have on you.
If like you say lack of credit in the past or have recently moved or some such, there isn't a lot you can do short term, other than pay your other bills on time (mobile phone contract perhaps, that kind of thing) to build up your history.
Note history, not rating. You dont have a credit rating or credit score.
Oh and make sure you dont sign up for any of their £14 a month offers either unless you think you will gain anything from it.0 -
Thanks.
She signed in for noodle and they say a credit report can't be compiled at this stage. Lets give it 6 months and try again.0 -
I've got bad credit Aqua won't give me a card but Capital One and Barclaycard did! Not sure why the Aqua card declined and barclaycard said yes as its ment to be the hardest of the "bad" credit cards to get.0

Barclaycard sent me letters every two months for the past 3 years, saying Ive been pre-aproved. When I finally took the plunge and went ahead with the application they declined it.
Go figure... In certain instances bad credit is better than no credit at all.:rotfl:0 -

Give them a ring and they will at least be able to tell you whether their apparently revised decision was an error.
Aquacard are pretty much ball-breakers when it comes to keeping other credit accounts as well as their's in order so that's all I can think of: Could be somerthing that has only just appeared on the credit report which wasn't there before.
Judging from posts on M.S.E. and those people I know who have an Aqua card I'd say that Aqua have moved to the middle ground as far as being sub-prime. This appears to have coincided with the issue of their Start card.0 -

That, unfortunately, is just a mailshot - they do a soft check and work out you are worthy of their wares but when you do a full search something obviously came up.0 -

They are junk in my opinion. But, hey, you don't know until you try!! Just don't do it too often that's all. At least a good thing came out of this...cts_casemod found out that something's up with the credit history and now can rectify it.0 -

My partner is an EU citizen who came to the UK in early 2011. She never had credit history. She worked ever since, paid tax, has a British driving license, road tax, car and council tax/rent on both our names. But all this wasn't enough to open a bank account because she has no other bills in her name. And since she had no bank account, she cant have bills on her name because they cant do credit checks!!
I had a bank account for a number of years. I just avoid to take credit and now I'm in a position where I struggle to get essentials like a credit meter, required to have access to the best tariffs on the market, despite never owing money to anyone. I Think this was an eye opener for me.
Its a ridiculous situation. Last month I got fed up and added her to my bank account, hence why we are so concerned about credit history right now, but hands are tied for her if she cant get a credit card. That, unfortunately, is just a mailshot - they do a soft check and work out you are worthy of their wares but when you do a full search something obviously came up.Give them a ring and they will at least be able to tell you whether their apparently revised decision was an error.
