Persistent unwanted caller

Recently I received a call from somone I did not know who claimed to just happen to have my mobile number on his phone. I told him that he has obviously got the wrong answer, he wanted my name but I declined to give it out. He has phoned and sent me text messages several times since which is getting quite annoying, what are my options, I have this persons mobile number.

Either give it to me and I will scare him off or report the number to the police.

Assign it a silent ringtone so it won't disturb you keep the texts for the police.

Seriously, I have had a similar situation with my ex's daughter, the only time the police were interested is when the calls got nasty, either blank the calls,change number or get somebody to have a quiet but firm word in there ear (My services are available) I have a special way with words !!
