Personalised number plate
                    Hi,
I am changing my car on Saturday morning.
I have a personalised plate on my car at the moment which i want to transfer to my next car.
How do i go about doing that ?
Can i use the DVLA online sevice and switch the plate over on Saturday ?
The garage said they would fill a form in and send the log books away and it would be at least 2 weeks before i could put the plate on my next car.
Thanks

You can use the online service, but it does appear to be a 2 week lead time according to the "official" site :
 https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/transferring-a-registration-number0

Do the transfer yourself now, do not trust the garage to do the transfer, they do not care about your plate, it can easily be sold with the car & lost forever.0

i changed my personal plate online in september of this year and it was instant.
the site gave me the authority to replace my personal number with the car's original number plate straight away.
i do believe somewhere on the site though it says this is only possible during office hours mon - fri, so doing it on a saturday may not be an option to getting it done immediately.0

            Thanks for the link.
It doesn't seem a quick process to change the plate over.0

I have phoned the garage and they are going to phone me back tomorrow as the salesman who looks after things like this is off today.0

 Thanks for the info
It says you can use the online service Mon-Sat 8am to 6pm
I assume if i use the online service i would still give the garage the logbook with my personalised plate on. And when the new one comes through I would then have to give that to the garage so they could sell my old car.
Am I right in thinking I would have to wait for the log book for my new car to come through before I can assign my plate to my new car online. ?0

As others have said don't entrust this to the sales exec "who looks after these things" otherwise the next thread you start will be "Garage lost my personalised number plate! WHAT DO I DO NOW??? URGENT HELP PLEASE!"I have phoned the garage and they are going to phone me back tomorrow as the salesman who looks after things like this is off today.0

Don't rely on this service - both my recent sold and purchased cars had previously had other private plates on at some point in their lives and this stopped the process - took me 4 weeks (2 weeks each transaction) and bear in mind you've Christmas in the way.
Assuming you're taking the plate off your current car I'd be doing that now (or yesterday) and hoping if it doesn't go through the electronic system you have an understanding dealer who's not looking to punt out your PX before the year end0

It doesn't seem a quick process to change the plate over.
In have no idea why you think that.
The whole process took me 5 minutes on the computer and then 10 minutes to physically change over the plates.
The new V5C arrived 2 days later and the retention certificate the day after that.
 How could it be quicker?0

It works as Icceweasel has said. However it depends in whether the garage will accept your car with the old plate on with a V5 bearing the private plate.0
