OTT P&P? Or am I being unreasonable?

Also, as someone trying to make a profit it doesn't seem to be a great idea to make a loss on the postage charged. I make sure my P and P is clearly shown, my buyers seem very happy if the positive feedback they leave is anything to go by.

Blimey, and I'll bet postage costs are pretty steep, all the way from Middle Earth

Seriously, I'm a little similar to you Kim, in that I only charge buyers actual postage because I tend to reuse packaging, and usually tie in my trip to the PO with my everyday life.
But then I'm only an occasional seller, might do it differently if I was trying to make a living from it.
And as heathen says, I wouldn't have minded so much paying extra if the packaging had been better. Oh well, the creases have come out ok, so not to worry. I'm not going to risk getting anything but positive feedback by asking for refunds. Just curious what others thought really.
Thanks for all the replies, appreciate your help everyone :beer:0 -

I'm just a small seller too, just selling a few things to raise cash. I normally only have to pay an extra £1.35 anyway on each item.. :beer:0 -

That's very admirable of you. However, if you add up the P&P costs that you are paying yourself, it probably works out quite a lot if you're selling a lot of items! I'm sure a lot of MSEs on these boards would tell you to stop as you're effectively helping them to pay for their purchases!
I'm sure a lot of the people that you sell to would pass on all of their P&P costs to you if you were doing the buying.
Still, it's nice to know that not everyone on Ebay is ruthless.

Well i sold most of my unwanted items for £257 and i payed roughly £12 in postage myself..so really it's not a big deal..alright it's £12 but i'm not a big seller, if i were then maybe i'd charge the full whack..

Oi!! stop picking on me you lot

Sorry the postage price seemed fine to me. It was boxed and wrapped. Maybe not to the best of standards but its not like she made a fortune from it ! Yes wrapping, petrol, time and effort do need to be added to the total postage price, even Ebay agree on this. Sometimes the postage can seem overly huge because you get the item at a cheap price. And I do object to hugely inflated prices but understand the sellers who take into account their costs.
Anyone who wants to pay part of the postage themselves to keep customers happy, is in my opinion silly. People are willing to pay for an acceptable postage price. As for keeping them happy, Its impossible. Someone will object someday to your packaging , then you get hassle and have made a loss.... crazy.0 -

I can tell you i am not silly, just fair  I have seen plenty of over priced postage on e bay in my time and people complaining via feedback.

Kim, we're not picking on you at all. It's just Ebay is all about buying, selling and making as much money as possible. Having good customer relations doesn't mean that you have to suffer a financial loss. It just annoys me that all of those greedy people out there are taking advantage of your low p&p and no doubt laughing all the way to the bank. If you were a huge corporation, that'd be different. But when do you see them ever giving anything financial back to their customers?! As far as P&P goes, people will pay it if they want the item and it's been that way for years.
Please at least re-consider passing the full cost of P&P onto your customers. They won't mind if the item arrives in good condition and is wrapped well.
Just remember "only £12" here and there, over time, will soon add up! It's the accumulation of small savings that results in the bigger savings in the future. I'm sure Martin Lewis would agree!
In fact Kim, you've inspired me to change my signature!
By the way, I loved your smilie! How did you do it?0 -
Never took into consideration Petrol.......maybe I should from now on, even though I walk to the Post Office
