OTT P&P? Or am I being unreasonable?

Won a bargain suit for 99p. P&P listed as £7.50, which I've paid before for a suit, but on that occasion it was wrapped really carefully and boxed up etc. This one came folded up really small (took an hour of ironing to get creases out) and was wrapped in a sheet of brown paper. The actual postage charge was £4.52 so this seller must buy her brown paper from Harrods!

I know if you disagree with p&p you don't bid, but am I alone in feeling a bit put out by clearly paying more than the seller's costs? Even with cost of petrol and parking etc (she sold half a dozen other things on the same day all posted yesterday) it is OTT.

Should I refer to it in my feedback? Guess I'll look petty as I got a bargain even with this overcharge but I do find it a bit annoying.

Well it's not way OTT as a P&P charge - but maybe worth mentioning in feedback that packaging could have been better. I appreciated it when a buyer reported that packaging had ripped in transit - and I pack better now.

Personally, I don't think £2.98 is too far over the top for packing / petrol / time / possible car parking etc etc, but I would comment that the item was not very well packaged. If you're happy with the suit you've got for £8.49, then I don't see how you can leave anything but +'ve feedback whilst referring to the poor packaging.

Well 2 people saying exactly the same thing at the same time!

Thanks for the advice, it's obviously just me then!

I never intended to leave anything but positive feedback, but I will mention that the packaging was a bit poor.

I'm with the other posters here as well, the post and packing costs were not OTT but if you feel the actual packaging was poor then certainly mention that in the feedback.

An ebay seller once explained to me that when she calculates the p&p she takes into consideration the paper, bubble wrap, petrol etc PLUS the Paypal fee (if that's the chosen payment option). I think this sounds pretty fair.

I always ensure my postage costs i put on my items for sale are lower then the actual postage i pay. I don't mind paying a little of the postage myself as it's good customer relations. But to charge someone way over the top is a bit much. She/he should really refund the extra you payed.

i think the extra postage charge is ok but for that price you would expect it to be very well packaged as thats what youve paid for.

I don't agree at all, the charge is post and packing not just postage.

Also, as someone trying to make a profit it doesn't seem to be a great idea to make a loss on the postage charged. I make sure my P and P is clearly shown, my buyers seem very happy if the positive feedback they leave is anything to go by.

Exactly if you charge OTT postage you should always use it to pack well..after all i'm sure they wouln't like to receive and item which isn't packed well..if your a seller you must look after your customers :) They always come back then :)

That's your opinion, and your way of doing business and if it suits you thats fine.

If I am listing items at 99p I will be trying to cover as much of my costs as possible in P+P. But that is just the way I do it.

I pay for items around that sort of price level about 22%-23% to EBay/PayPal and I need to ensure that I do not make a loss.

This subject (and I had lots of negative comments) has been covered in some detail in the past.

The problem of above certainly looks like a packing issue and probably should be mentioned.
