If I've read OP correctly, I don't think you can switch a single account to a joint account.

You can switch a sole to a joint (I've done it) but you can't switch a joint to a sole account.
  • I had M&S Credit Card not claim a DD which was due on the date of the switch and then charge a £12 default on the statement. Credited back after a phone call but they didn't seem to acknowledge fault.

  • Hi, is this a SCAM by Halifax?

Halifax switching reward says I can get £125 in big letters

but apparently they can only offer a basic account but again in hug letters it says I still get the £125. Txt from Halifax says I dont get reward and when I phone up they say small print somewhere says I dont get it and giant banner saying I do is just an "advert" and not real t&c. I swapped to Halifax as MSE website sugeested it a good bet - I now feel lied to by Halifax and hope MSE will change their advance in light of what feels like a con to me.

According to Noddle I have a good credit score but a basic account would have worked fine - oh and now I a commited to moving my account it cant be stopped and my Lloyds full account will be closed. Do hope no one else gets caught out like this.

The banner advert for the switching offer displayed at https://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/ clearly states "Available on new and existing Ultimate Reward (£15 monthly fee), Reward or existing Current Accounts only.", so if you open a Basic Account then you don't qualify. Where can you see something that states (or even suggests) that Basic Accounts are eligible for the offer?

I had a minor issue when switching to M&S that Tesco thought that it meant a new DD was required so I ended up with two listed for them, the transferred one and the new one. It was all sorted quickly enough and I still got the switching bonus.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Never had a problem with the switching process. They never seem to tell my employer so I always have to tell them of my new bank details for my wages (which isn't a big deal) but would be good if they could do this also.
  • When it comes to my salary, there's absolutely no I wouldn't make sure my employer knew of the change myself, anyway.

Completed 5 switches, in the past. 6th happens today. No problems so far.
  • I went through the whole process of swapping and close to the end the message came up that I was not eligible for a special account and wouldnt get monthly rewards BUT it said dont worry you will still get the £125 moving reward so I continued. Once started Halifax man said he cannot stop the transfer.

Yorkshire bank didn't do my switch properly - I'd advise checking with the DD originators to ensure your details have been changed.
