When I got Sky+ in they pulled my existing cable out and used that hole to run a twin-core cable in it's place. They replaced the LNB with a quad output one. If you are anyway electrically skilled you can run another cable from the LNB to your old Sky box which you now have lying spare, say to a bedroom. You can then ring Sky and get a Freesat card for £20. This activates the Sky box to let you receive the same sort of channels as Freeview.

Is there any real advantage of having Sky+?

Upgrading to Sky+ is like upgrading from dial up internet to broadband! After a whie you will wonder how you ever did without your pause live tv/rewind live tv/recording two channels at once etc

I paid £150 for mine years ago and it was worth every penny.
For £49 I was grab it while it's still available as these deals dont seem to last

I was offered Sky+ "free" but because I am on a basic package (£21 p.m.) I would have to pay an extra £10 p.m. Mmmm I bought a Hard Drive/DVD/VCR instead.

  • I rang sky to try and get this offer last night and after being transferred to 3 different people I was told that no-one seemed to have this on their system and therefore no-one could allow me to have this deal. I suppose I should try through a sky retailer.

bigcammy i recently had sky+ installed and have been wondering how do use the old box in my bedroom!!!
im NOT technically minded could you tell me what i would need to do and buy-my 'old' box is only 1yr old and i have been left with only the scart and the power lead,my sat dish is right outside my bedroom window so would i be able to run a cable from the actual dish as this would mean less cable and work (for my dad who will have to do the dangerous bit, lol) ?
    i appreciate your help! Laura.

The first thing is to get a cable run from the Sky dish to the receiver, once that's in then go to Services to see if you're getting a signal ok. You might want to get an Aerial Installer to do this for you, to make sure that the LNB is still waterproof after getting the work done.

You'll also need to buy a Freesat card from Sky. Supposedly you can't buy one if you have a Sky subscription at the address you are buying it for, but a friend of mine didn't take no for an answer and they sold him one, £20. Once you have that, insert it in the Sky Box and you'll probably have to ring Sky to pair the card up with the receiver.

are there any restrictions on which SKY package you opt for? Do you need to take the movies/sports?
if i had known then what i know now
  • I rang sky there and asked them about this deal - they said there was no such deal available to me. :(
Pity as I really want Sky+, but refuse to shell out £100+ for it.

    Any ideas?

If you are an existing customer, ring them up and tell them that you are cacelling your account, they usually offer you something like 3 months at half price, but tell them your not interested but you would consider a deal on sky+.
