More wasp problems - my bathroom is a huge nest

I have an infestation of wasps in my bathroom. It is the THIRD summer running now. I kill around 40+ each summer, 30+ die by their own device littering the bath, the floor and lamp fitting and 30+ are flapped out of the window by me when I am feeling generous. 100+ of the bleeding things  I have a LOT of wasps in my bathroom :(

I kinda hoped they would go away by their own steam but each summer is a repeat of the last. I have lived here for 4 years and apart from the first it is been evil!

They are now finding their way to my little girl's room and she got stung a couple of days for the first time which sucked majorly :(

I am phoning Bromley pest control first thing in the morning but just wanted to seek forum advice at the same time

I don't know where they are hiding out except the bathroom is their hive and even though you read they will never stay in the same place 2 year running that is a total lie as exampled by my miserable plight!

Where could their nest be? And how are they/can they get into your bathroom? Through the open window, your extractor fan, a wall vent? Work out how they are getting in there and it should lead you back to where they live
The nest could be in your loft, or outside under gutter/fascia boards anywhere else it could be?
Cant advise much on getting rid of them though Im afraid, arm yourself with several cans of wasp killer, a face mask and boiler suit and take a thick black sack and fill it with the nest maybe? I think Id pay the pro's though

Wherever they are coming from wasps do not use the same nest twice. Bees do of course use the same place for long periods, are you sure they are wasps? Some honeybees can look very wasplike. However bees would have been a problem all summer long.

We had wasps nesting in our kitchen extension roof cavity for two years running. I didn't get close enough to check whether they were actually in the same nest or not!! They were in the same roof, however, so I'd guess even if they are in a different nest they were happy to build it near to the old one.

We had pest control out to see to it in the second year and they haven't been back yet. It cost around £60, three years ago. There is no way I would have attempted it myself for that.

Only the queen overwinters. But she may well start a new nest near the old one. Lofts/eaves are very popular. I wouldn't attempt a DIY effort to eradicate a nest if its in the loft unless it can be tackled from outside.

We had a nest in the cavity wall of our first floor flat. It cost us £150 to get a bloke out to kill them off, he squirted stuff through the airbrick. He told us to keep all our windows shut as they can get a bit 'cross' after being sprayed!

They have been a nuisance for a couple of months now - does that quantify as all summer. TBH I can't tell the difference between bees or wasps

Thanks posters for all your responses. Be assured I would not try to tackle this on my own

Some districts can be haunted more than others, sometimes It can be berry trees that attract these little pests, the ONLY WAY to stop infestation is to check out soffits/facings & barge boards, and seal any cracks or openings with mastic. Wasps will return to the same property time and time again, albeit not to the same nest.

In which case, they could well be honey bees - these are protected and it's an offence to harm them  So your call to Bromley Council pest control is the best way to go.

Wasps are long, thin with very distinctive yellow & black stripes on the body.

Honey bees are smaller, slightly fatter, tend to be a shade of brown and can have darker brown or black stripes on the body.

Honey bees make permanent homes - which would explain why you've been invaded three years running.
Only the queen overwinters. But she may well start a new nest near the old one.

More often than not, the current queen dies. But some of the eggs she laid in late summer become males & females. They swarm in late summer, mate and the fertilised female is then a new queen which hibernates over winter. They mate in the air, so it would be unusual - but not impossible - for the new queen to overwinter near the old nest. It's possible though, you're right. The old nest is never used - but a new queen might "build an extension on to it!" :D

A mate of mine had the same problem last year He found they were going up the overflow pipe. A smoke bomb thing in the loft and bathroom should get rid of them and then cover the overflow with gauze.

I could marry you! The pest control are coming tomorrow. My friend mentioned that she saw them flying up a pipe in the downstairs shed that I think links to the toilet pipe. Is this what you mean? Anyway I think that might be their entry point. I cannot wait till tomorrow!
