    1 - They don't port - end of story
2 - Doesn't use the native dialler or sms setup.
3 - It isn't made clear when you apply that it's essentially a mobile
VOIP service using an app IMO
4 - The texts are very slow when I used them.
5 - 3 have voice/text backup (roaming on 2G EE) outside 3G/4G coverage. Freedompop don't even with 'Premium Voice'
6/7 - The voice quality is highly variable using the mobile network, using home Wi-Fi it was fine but the texts were still slow. 'Premium Voice' is ok but only works for outgoing calls and hasn't 2G access.

I wouldn't recommend them as their only/main mobile service.

So much wrong there, but that seems to be a common thing with a number of posts you make...

Go to their website and you'll see that porting is listed as coming soon, so it's not the end of the story.
It does use the native dialler.
Texts are the same speed as directly through Three, I've tested it a number of times from different locations.
The old Orange backup is now limited to specific areas of the UK, most very rural areas of Wales and Scotland, it costs Three money and they are actively removing areas from having it.

I think people get you don't like it, but don't make things up to fit your agenda...

My Three 3-2-1 paygo sim has cost me £21 since March 2014 and I use it for calls, text and data (but I shut off data when not in use). I even used it abroad last December. That's 3p a min for calls, 2p a text and 1p per mbit for data

Did you receive any calls when you were abroad? If so how much did it cost per minute?

I'm looking for a PAYG sim with at least 1mb of data a day (I use it mainly for instant messaging services), occasional sms both from the UK and the EU. I also need one where I can receive the occasional call from the UK whilst in another EU country - without it wiping my credit out.

As far as I'm aware my best options are Three and GiffGaff.

But firstly need to know if anyone knows what networks those companies use. Does anyone know?
I need to avoid those that use the same network as o2 - as my signal has been awful for at least a year - and has gotten worse (currently a 'mast' has been down near me - and they are still "waiting for a 3rd party supplier to fix it" - almost 1 MONTH LATER).

    Thanks.

There is a difference of opinion/perspective, which you equate with being right or wrong.

E.G. from my perspective (when in Scotland) 2G backup is fairly common and not having it leaves large gaps in voice coverage when driving.

IMO Freedompop is 'pants' compared with a standard PAYG setup.

    With:

3 - you could topup £5 per month and that will get you a bonus 150mb for that duration. You can receive calls in their EU 'Feel at Home' destinations for free and the rest at the standard EU rate.

GiffGaff - I'm not aware of any data deals (other than buying a bundle) or free roaming. O2 provide GiffGaffs coverage also.

That's the deal breaker then. No point going with GiffGaff if I regularly can't get a phone signal.

3 really is great for low users, if the signal is poor try Delight on EE, same 321p rates, no free data but £3 for 500MB.

You will get 4G on 3 but no 2G service, whereas Delight is EE 2&3G
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

o2 and Voda own a joint backhaul network, Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Ltd (CTIL) - pretty much everything is outsourced.

Yup, but 3g speeds on Voda bareable, o2 laughable in my experience

It's pretty shocking that such a big company still hasn't repaired a 'broken mast' in almost 1 month and just blame a "3rd party supplier" (that hasn't fixed it yet).
