Check the oil level in the gearbox ;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yeah, what is the point in getting car "fixed" if I don't know what the problem is. It's always worth waiting for it to develop further first.
So instead of getting something investigated and fixed before it actually breaks down which may save an expensive repair bill, it is better to wait for it to actually break down and get a really big repair bill, I like your logic.

There's always one who thinks they are better than everyone else.

Thanks what mechanics who work in garages do for a living. Take it to one of them folk to diagnose the problem.

    Good lucks

I thought arcon5 was actually quite gentle with you. He could have not unreasonably been harsher.

Not doing anything about this issue for two months is very unwise.

It is usually not worth "waiting for it to develop further first" as that often leads to a worsening and more expensive to fix problem.

I've taken a car to garages to find out what problems are in the past. 3 garage later and £64 (in diagnostic fees) lighter and been no further forward.

Can't blame me wanting to be sure of what a problem is before rocking up at a garage. :)

So it is better to wait until something falls off the car or it breaks down and possibly causes a major accident before having faults investigated.
  • I understand both sides of waiting or being pro-active about a fault. The problem is sometimes when you have an intermittent fault or fault that is not severe enough that it is extremely difficult for the mechanic to diagnose. Mostly what happens is they change parts until it cures the problem. This can be very expensive.

So, then you have the choice of waiting for the fault to develop enough for it to be correctly diagnosed, but by that time it could potentially cause bigger damage.

    Dilemma!

So you don't think mechanical problems cause accidents?

What fantasy world do you live in?

People die every year in collisions caused by mechanical failure.

People die from all sorts of things that could have been prevented. Blocked & locked fire exits, lack of health & safety procedures, the list goes on.
