They certainly did get used to good effect. I think the good people of New England got the benefit of them:beer:.

We're looking forward to Vancouver, as we've not heard anything but good things said about the entire area (& I'm looking forward to the flight, as I've blagged the throne seat on the A380).

I've a very strong feeling that Seattle & Vancouver will feature in future plans as well.

All those years ago we spent some time in Vancouver and TBHO thought it was dump.
The main "high" street had a few shops boarded up and at the very end was where all the hobos gathered.

    Not that impressed.

    Maybe it's changed...

We had a holiday in Vancouver in September and had a fabulous time.

    We never saw any dumps.

I would go back in an instant.

Hopefully it has changed (a lot !! from then)
  • No help whatsoever, I'm afraid, but that sounds like a great trip! I've only ever heard good things about Vancouver and fancy visiting myself some day.

Things continue apace and I've now booked the Amtrak from Seattle to Vancouver, which makes things slightly less complicated.
Canada car rental done via Avis - top of the shop car at a reasonable rental rate.
    We've got 4 x Canadian ETAS & 4 x US ESTAS.
all looks good in the hood.

    Murph

p.s. I'm choking on my cornflakes at the cost of accomodation in Seattle. Maybe we should have hired a minivan and slept in that instead !

Will you have a car then? If so, how about staying in a motel on the outskirts?

Yes, we've got a (nice :D) car and we're happy to stay on the outskirts.

Saying that, even a basic motel, with a lowish cockroach count (;)) is in the region of £100 per night, room only in August.

I'll keep searching, but from my initial looking, I'm going to have to face facts that Seattle isn't going to be an inexpensive part of the world to stay in.

p.s to date, IHG via Friends and Family rate is bringing up the nest compromise between having somewhere nice to stop and having to rob a bank to pay for it. I've also looked as B&B/guest houses/Inns and initial looks are good, but a lot won't take children and those that do seem to have high room rates for August.

I'll have a mooch. Previously Motel 6 & Super 8 haven't fit in with what we've been looking for.
Hopefully I'll find something that works

There certainly is a large "dump" area in Vancouver. You must have missed it!
It sure is a nice place though
