iphone 5 locking?

Hi all,
Could any one help an (oldish) Moneysavingexpert contributor..

My brother has given me his daughters very well kept iphone 5- that I hope to set up for my wife. He says she was on contract with 'Orange'- although it had a EE card in. Took it to tesco' last night and signed up for a contract, and was told it would take a couple of hours.
Now found it is locked. Very nearly paid www. officialiphoneunlocking.com- bit searches say this is a scam. Colleagues at work say e-bay is OK.?

Help. Is there an official unlocking method ? Will Orange or is it EE help- What is way forward for an old timer !

Don't go for any unofficial unlocking.

The only way to properly unlock is through the network.

If you’re not an EE, Orange or T-Mobile customer and have bought a device second hand that’s locked to our network, you can go into an EE store to get it unlocked. Sorry, but these requests can’t be made online.

The alternative is if your brother contacts Orange/EE and requests the phone be unlocked, he would be billed £8.99.

I got my iPhone unlocked via https://www.officialiphoneunlock.co.uk/

Usually I would have avoided this thing like the plague but I was desperate and the network wanted nothing to do with it.

As I remember it took about 3-4 days, I received an email saying the unlock was done and as I recall it was pretty much instant.

It's an official unlock (they have people working for the mobile operators who submit your IMEI number).

This was around 4/5 months ago, obviously be cautious but it worked for me.

There are a number of unlockers on eBay who can do it, just look for one with high feedback BUT they are expensive.

Your best option is to get your brother to either phone Orange/EE or fill in the unlocking form on the EE website and get it unlocked directly for £8.99.
