O/S Daily Thread Friday 4th December

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all. I had the worst night ever last night. Wide awake at 2.30, gave in at 3.30 and came downstairs and tried to read. Couldn't concentrate so went back to bed. Sleep still didn't come so got up at 4.30 and sorted out the kitchen cupboards.

The DGDs are all still asleep, I was praying I wouldn't waken them by dropping a jar or tin! Once we have them off to school I really must have a half hearted dust and vac all round and then this afternoon hope I can manage a much needed nap. The bathroom and kitchen can wait till tomorrow!

I made a giant lasagne for tea yesterday and there is quite a bit of that left, so that will warm up for lunch with a bit of salad and crusty bread. Nice and easy! Not sure yet what we will have tonight but I think fish of some sort is calling.

I've made Parsnip & Apple soup before, but has anyone made Parsnip & Pear? I spotted a recipe in a mag the other day and when I saw a bag of pears half price yesterday it prompted me on to try it. A job for this afternoon methinks.

Have a good day all (((((((HUGS)))))))) to those wanting/needing them. If anybody knows of any remedies to cure insomnia I'd be grateful. I really don't want to have to resort to prescribed medication but I am getting desperate for a good night's sleep. I've tried lavender drops on the pillow, Rescue Night remedy, various stuff from the health shop etc, but nothing has helped. Sorry for the moan but I am feeling fed up!

    Take care all xx

    Morning all

HH - sounds like you had a much better night. You were probably so tired you body just said enough and let you get some proper rest.

Still dark here, but it's not raining at the moment and the ground looks dry still a bit blowy, was quite windy last night and during the night, not so bad now.

DH up and now going to work. DS1 up and now going to work. DS2 still in his pit - he's injured his thumb, not sure if it's broken/tendon/ligament damage - I'll be taking him to hospital this morning and then we should know more. He'll be off school today.

I'll be going to do the food shop early in the SM then straight home and take DS2 to the hospital once they're open (hospital small injuries opens 9am-5pm Mon-Fri).

Wasn't particularly productive yesterday, I did get the washing drying and ironing done, but there's a small load ready to go into the WM this morning. Will get that load in so it's done by the time I get back from shopping, will get that in the TD.

Dinner tonight will be something and chips, needs to be an easy dinner.

Will endeavour to get the hoover shoved round and would like to get some cooking done.

    Have good Fridays everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all, I have been up since 5, not bad for me. Went to bed feeling sorry for myself but better this morning. Today is my day off, and I will clean so that I have a clear weekend. Not raining, unlike last night's stormy weather so may risk putting washing out. Hope people have good days.

    Morning everyone.

Another day in Glasgow, am planning a quick trip back into town before the rain starts but will see how I am in a couple of hours. The planned catch up with an ex-colleague later this afternoon has been postponed. He needs to set off back down south and it'll be Friday rush hour to contend with.

There were endless tasks to sort out for mum yesterday, I think she looks for them, so I'm happy that lots of small annoying things have been tackled and dealt with. Especially important was new batteries in her alarm clock for the deaf, it's now back to vibrating like an earthquake again.

Today's plans are fluid. Plan A was to head home later but the weather has got a yellow warning until tomorrow morning do I'll stay until then and take mum shopping on Saturday. I feel restless here and long for my own place.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Friday.

TravellingAbuela I'd like a solution too! I keep sleeping tablets in the cupboard, but I hardly ever take them. I'm worried about relying on them and having to take them forever. It's not normal to have to rely on them, I should be able to just sleep naturally.

Mr tru is taking Scampi to the vets this morning for his booster jab then visiting FIL. He rang mr tru and his brother on their mobiles while they were at work yesterday and left panicky messages. Then he rang the works numbers and left more messages. The pair of them were trying to ring him back but it was engaged for ages so they were getting really worried. Eventually mr tru got hold of him – there's a slight smell coming from under the kitchen cupboard, he can't get down there himself so could mr tru come and have a look? Mr tru asked if I was coming with him, I told him I can't cope with FIL's dramatics at the moment so I'll stay away, thanks :D He done this before, with a kettle (the fuse had blown), the telly (he'd changed it to the DVD channel and couldn't get Sky Sports back on) and the Sky remote (it needed new batteries).

It was wet and windy last night but it's calm out there at the moment. Hopefully it'll stay that way, I want to pop into town this morning. I've already planned my route to make the visit as short as possible :D Not sure what I'm doing this afternoon but I already know it won't be much :D

    Morning All

Glad some sleep has been caught up on HH, sorry for those who didn't manage too well.

Dress down day at school in return for something nice for the school fair tomorrow, I have bought a tin of biscuits so will wear jeans. Washing up to date.

Didn't manage to wrap anything last night, I was too worn out by the day, busy day at work, shift at the hospice and then a walk to the library. Had a lovely long hot shower and could only manage to veg on the sofa!

LO curry for tea and must do some housework later.

    Take care. XX

Good Morning all, grey and grotty looking from my study window,I have to change some light bulbs for DD this morning she picked up the bayonet instead of the screw type ones,so its a trip across the road 3 minutes away ,to Wilko's in the precinct. But I shall leave my purse at home so I won't be tempted to buy :):):)
History Club this afternoon and we are going to learn all about J M Barrie and Muhammad Ali, what a combination :):):).

I must get a start on Christmas cards as well I found two half empty boxes in a drawer left over from last year,so I'm going to use them up first. Tonight I promised I would take DD and her friend to the works do at Detling, and pick her up when it finishes,so I will be a busy bee tonight, good job I am a night person at times (I'll probably have a snooze during the evening )
Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing I'm just off to have some porridge to warm me up before a go over the road
    Cheers chums

    Morning folks,

Beautiful morning here, clear and sunny but there is definetly more of a nip in the air.
The girls were boisterous on their walk so took advantage of nicer weather and took them right round the fields as looking at what's forecasted for tomorrow doubt that we will get out very far.

TA sorry you are still struggling to sleep, I have been taking Kalms over the last couple of weeks, not sure if you have tried them as they do contain valerian which is supposed to help.

We are going off to BurySt this morning as there is an Al++ there and need a few bits, counted up the meals in my freezer last night and taking into consideration the three meals out that are currently on the calendar have enough to go straight through to Xmas week. So after today and apart from fresh fruit and veg my grocery purse will not re-open until then, it's needs a rest :)

Tru thanks for the carol, my favourite as it has pagan roots.

Get well wishes to any poorly folk, have a good day all xx
