What is the item out of interest?
  • Only a Nintendo.
  • You can also get it delivered to your local post office for a small fee. That I could see being claimed back.

No one has to make a 20 mile trip.

Well, I leave my house to go to work at about 7.45 every morning and I don't get back until well after 6pm in the evening and at this time of year I usually work Saturdays as well, what use would it be for someone like me to have a package delivered to my local PO?

Just because something might work for you doesn't mean that it's suitable for everyone.

Some people work 9-5, so finding a convient time isn't always easy.

It would be incredibly unfortunate for the OP to live 20 miles from a post office (does he mean sorting office?), to work 9-5 six days a week and to have no neighbours willing to take in a parcel.

I'd hazard a guess that someone quite so unfortunate would be unlikely to win any competitions! ;)

Well I guess you don't do any online shopping as how would you have time to be able to go to your local sorting office to pick it up either with those working hours?

Luckily my local one (only 4 miles away, and thats after they closed the one only a mile away) is now open on Sundays too, very convenient for those working all the hours gods sends but still want to shop online.

I agree with the poster you are quoting.

It used to be a lot of bother for me going to the sorting office (and also the post office). At that time I seldom bought online. Occasionally I would buy an item, and pay for guaranteed delivery before 10am, and go to work later. However it was an inconvenience that I would minimise, to once or twice a year.

As the poster said, just because something might work for you doesn't mean that it's suitable for everyone.

We have no idea of the OP's circumstances. They may indeed be someone who does not shop much online because of the inconvenience it causes them.

    Guess again.
I buy plenty of stuff from Amazon and have it delivered to an Amazon locker which is in a local garage that is open 24 hours so I don't have to go to a delivery office.
From your reply, you make it sound as if working during the day and on Saturdays is something unusual. It's far from unusual and is something that is done by many people in the UK.

The exact reason my sorting office is open until 8pm on a wednesday.

  • I'm guessing the majority of you live in big towns or cities and have never heard of the countryside. You know, where people like myself live, 20 miles from the closest post office. I'm fortunate enough to have a lot of my parcels delivered to the work place, not that I should have to explain myself to anyone.

In fairness but "many people in the UK" are more likely to:

    - Work 5 days out of 7

    - Work hours between 8am and 8pm, with the most common likely being 9-5

    - Have a fair number of friends and family who can collect during non-working hours.

This, and some post offices being open until 8pm, allows some flexibility in picking up a parcel.

ALSO, by virtue of OP going to collect a parcel they weren't too sure about I would argue that they were sufficiently able to make the trip with minimal convenience in the first place - aka OP is just making it into a bigger deal than it was.
