Facebook is not a safe place on which to do business.

It absolutely is if you use common sense, check out the website thoroughly and use Paypal or your credit card.

A Visa debit card gives protection for smaller amounts than a credit card which, if I remember rightly, has to be over a certain amount?

You're wrong. A credit card gives you additional protection over and above a debit card for an item with a cost of over £100, but the Chargeback provisions apply to both debit and credit cards.

Oh come on, a whois or a check of the site is not required here, the domain name speaks volumes in itself.

I simply said that a Visa card gives protection if your spend is under the credit card minimum, so it's not necessary to pay with a credit card for less expensive items.

To be fair the internet is not a safe place for the average consumer not just face book. You will find if you look hard enough this same seller will also be on all the market places as well as their own dedicated sites.

There are millions of them and as long as people really think they can get designer brands at 70% off and don't know how to do basic checks to protect themselves they will be about for a long time to come.

You said "...if I remember rightly...". well, you didn't remember rightly, so I was advising the correct position.
