Yes I had backed up everything onto disc...apart from my son's homework, I didn't know it was there, but he had been advised to save anything important.
I think what I'm going to do is to just take it down to my favourite shop and get him to reinstall XP and Ubuntu.
I can't thank you enough for all the time you've put into this it was really very good of you.Pity it didn't turn out right.
