I was thinking about this the other day, and I don't think enough is made of this. Perhaps something like this should be added to the start of the NEWBIES thread:

    BEFORE YOU POST
The parking companies often read this forum. With this in mind, it is strongly recommended that you always refer to the driver in the third person to avoid the risk of incriminating yourself.

    No "me" "myself" or "I".

If you have already posted, please go back and change it if necessary.

I've edited the post didn't realise they would look on here!

The only markings on the bay's are numbers some have companies names marked on but the bay where the driver was parked was just a number.

Is it worth writing an appeal explaining that the driver is a member at the gym and it was a honest mistake or take the advice of ignoring it?

    In brief, NO and NO!

You really need to read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES again as your questions are already answered in there, then appeal using the template contained therein whilst you find out whose car park you were actually in.

CPS will say this is a contractual fee for parking. IPC will agree. IAS will agree (don't use IAS - post #3 of the Newbies thread explains why not).

    CPS might sue you.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

What you need to do first and foremost is:

    (i) find out (by asking them and insisting on a detailed reply, with documentation preferably) exactly what parking spaces belong to the gym and (ii) get some photos of where you parked, with the surrounding land/parking spaces, to show that there were no signs.

They post on here too. They have a higher post count than me, but each post is under a different username!

  • I wonder if this is a self ticketing situation and the ticket has been issued by someone from the company that the gym shares the car park with?

If so it might be worth asking them to show where they think their territory ends and to show where this is indicated to users of the car park.

    All CPS locations are self-ticketers....

They pay a kickback of £25.00 for each paid parking charge received.
So (not including any "discount for early payment", it could be argued what is the consideration for parking...

    £100
    £75.00
or the £25.00 the landowner receives..
